Checking your oil how to?

Can anybody give me a step by step on how to get this damn dipstick out where it's readable? I've tried twisting it every way possile.

twisting it? how about just pulling it...works for me.

i will agree that our dipsticks were designed poorly, but they're not that impossible to use.

i've let mine sit overnight and i still get oil splatter in random spots on the dipstick when i wipe it and put it in and out 4 times.. it's still readable, showing the majority of the oil on the tip, but it's a little confusing sometimes when there looks like a line up at the full line, and the rest is down near the low line

Ok so twisting wasn't the best way to describe it. I guess I've tried to flex it as i pull it out so to not press the stick against the tube wall.

I have noticed that I can get a better reading after letting it sit overnight. Reading it while warm seems very very hard.

That's because you need to allow time for the oil to drip back down to oil pan, after it's been pumped though out the engine.

That may be true, but most engines you can check within a few minutes of turning off the engine no problem.
