I have had my coupe in twice this month trying to eliminate an oil leak. They are now replacing the drivers side valve cover and the gasket. I noticed on the 350Z boards that quite a few people have the same problem. Sounds like it should be a TSB. How many of you have had the same problem. BTW, I now have 18K on the car and I took delivery in Nov. 2003.

That's 43K miles per year!!!!!!!! You must have one hell of a commute!!!!!! I just hit 13K, and my car was out in service April 2003.

I have the same problem I have an oil leak and I took delivery on Dec 2003. It is going in the shop next week for repairs. It seems to be the 2003 with oil leaks.

 

How can you tell if you have a leak? I can't tell because of the shield covering the bottom of our cars.

 

The leaks are hard to see. If it is small it may not drip down to the ground. They replaced my driver side valve cover and gasket. Required some other gaskets to be replaced since getting to the cover is a problem. The first thing most people seem to notice is an unusual smell when the card is hot. Just after you park in your garage, etc. The Infiniti underwiter was not happy with the cost of this repair, but didn't really avoid doing it. Often the valve cover is back ordered, so if you need to have it done make sure they order it in advance and have it on premises. I spent a week with a smelly loaner.

After they replaced the valve cover and gaskets does the car still leak oil and do you have that funny smell?

 

No smell and No leaks, so far, after the repair. The smell was the first thing I noticed in the beginning. After a couple of months of the odd smell when hot, I noticed a few drops of oil on the floor. Synthetic oil has a very odd smell when burning on the headers and exhaust pipe.

I took my coupe to the dealer on Wednesday and I am just getting the car back today. They replaced the manifold gasket, valve cover gasket and the adapter gasket on the driver side of the car.
