the stillen box is close to 200 bucks. if you buy that thing, you might as well use the filter it comes with. no point in spending another 100 or so on a JWT.

as for dyno graphs, Im sorry, but I do not have them. They are at TS and im sure someone will post them eventually...im going to ask danny for a copy of them right now though. see if they'll hook it up.

how can we plug into the MAF sensor to get temperature readings? id love to be able to see exactly which 1 really does in fact get hotter.

I guess it isn't possible to get just the Stillen Box without the filter in that case. I already have the popcharger and was considering adding Stillen's plastic cover/box.

 

Nutty, all you have to do is go to Radio Shack and buy a $20 temp/humidity digital thermometer with a probe. Hold the probe (securely) directly in front of the intake and record the ambient temp and humidity right before it goes in to the filter. Also, turn on the weather channel and find out whtat the barometric pressure is at the time. If you know your altitude, I can tell you exactly what your normalized HP will be, controlled for outside conditions.

Please provide the dyno results that support your statement. I have dyno sheets that show both torque and horsepower gains.

I conversed at length with the guy who originally posted the loss. If my notes are correct, there were several apparent discrepancies including...

1) VDC may not have been in the same position for the before and after Stillen CAI installation pulls.

2) It's unknown if the ECU was reset. The car was driven around "a good bit". Actual time between dyno sessons was 30-40 minutes. IMO this was not enough time for the ECU to adapt to the major increase in air flow and a fuel lean condition may have existed.

3) The car was placed on the dyno two separate times. How a car sits on the rollers can affect the results.

4) After repeated attempts to dyno in forth gear, third gear was used due to repeated "downshifting" during the pulls.

5) "Heat was an issue all day". Different engine/drive train temperatures can seriously affect power output. It’s highly possible the engine was running hotter (due to a lean condition) during the “after” pull. If so, the ECU may have compensated by backing off the timing and/or adding extra fuel. The knock sensors may even have been activated.

As you can see, there were many variables that may have skewed the results.

I just picked up a used Stillen Airbox. To me the filter assembly looks very similar to the JWT. No dynos but I can definitely feel a difference, much more noticible than when I installed the Nismo CAI on my 350z.

Maybe stillen would offer the cover separate if you call, who knows.

 

i do not claim that the stillen air box makes less. i simply stated that I remembered reading a post that said that the dyno showed less power. thank you for the clarification. I may consider getting that piece as i have for a while now.

I wonder if the stock box could be fit around the JWT. That's pretty much what the Stillen arrangement looks like anyway.
