First time changing oil

So I am doing my oil change myself for my first time since I now have my own 2 post lift . Problem is I told my mechanic buddy to get my mobile 1 synthetic oil and he got me 0W-40, is that ok? I asked him for 10w-40, but oh well. Any recommendations

um.... 5-30 or 10-30 is what you really should be using unless you're FI and havn't told us.

40 is just too thick, and you're only robbing yourself of HP and MPG.

Thanks, glad I am doing the oil change myself because if he did it he would have just thrown the oil in their with no concern.

While you're under there doing the oil change, get yourself a power drill to unscrew the black plastic engine under cover. This will allow access to the oil drain plug and oil filter. The cover is held on by 12-15 screws/bolts, and with the power drill you can remove them all with the drill without tiring yourself out.

Better yet

Better yet while it's off cut a 3x5 access hole and you'll never have to remove it again.

I've been using M1 0W-40 since last winter. My car seemed to start up a lot better in cold weather. Pretty good year round oil and still okay for the track. Cold starts may not be a concern in CA though.

Haha, thanks for the tip. I have a powered lift, of course I am using power tools on that stuff.

I ended up using the 5w-30 since that was what infiniti recommends. I will put the 0w-40 in next time and compare. There was no noticeable change switching from castrol synthetic to mobile 1.

There shouldn't be any change when switching oil brands. Of course switching synthetic to non-synthetic (and vice versa) is perfectly OK. You may notice a difference in gas mileage too but it will be very slight.

Yeah I am watching my mpg, there is no difference there either. Guess the Castrol with 4500 miles on it was doing fine.
