Mystery Box?...
Mystery Box?...
So I went to replace the cabin filter today not 3 weeks after i bought my car and i find a box with a computer wire (looks like a monitor cable) comming out of it to the right of the filter, i decide this shouldnt be there and take a closer look. On one side of the box it says "TurboXs" i think fantastic this car had a turbo and the engine has 2 months to live...After some thinking it dawned on me why the stock exhaust was not sitting correctly under the car, the previous owner must have had a different exhaust with Turbos installed.
IT GETS BETTER, i took the car to a local machanic to get a full service and tire allignment and didnt say anything about the car till i was ready to pick it up and i asked him if anything didnt look stock and he said the suspension wasnt stock.
The car runs and handles great (probaly due the the suspension) i have no complaints, my question is if there was a turbo installed on the car at some point can i have the compression check or somthing to determine if the car was run at a ridiculous Psi and the engine is shot before my 2 month dealer warranty is over and could i remove this box that is still in the car and reconnect everything back to the factory ECU?
Thanks for any help
Mike

My car is N/A (Naturally Aspirated) and i have a Turbo XS UTEC so it can be tuned. A UTEC doesnt mean that it had a turbo... Plus if you like how the car drives now, dont take out the UTEC, it will be slower.

Description:
The Z UTEC is a Plug and Play Parallel Engine Management System. Designed to work together with you factory ECU. The UTEC gives you the ability to let the factory ECU drive the car under normal cruise conditions then take over when you are ready for the power in a flawless manor. This gives you like stock drive-ability with the advantages of a powerful stand-alone system. The UTEC allows you to maintain OBDII compliancy as well. Works with boost and N/A Applications. This is probably the best way to tune the Z with lots of options for ignition timing and fuel.

and ENJOY your car.

If you still have it by tuesday i'll probably hit you up... I just took a hit w/ these new greddy sides + paint and install.. I should have the funds by then. Its a maybe
What city do you live in? The utech isnt as popular as it could be in the tuning world, if you get on the phone and start calling local import racer shops in your area you are bound to find someone that really know what they are doing with it. It can be pretty expensive to get it tuned, anywhere from $200 to $500. But it shouldnt be too bad for you since its already tuned for something. I would really get it to a tuner asap if you want to leave it in there because you can be running really rich = wasting gas...or lean which I doubt if it did have turbos.
I wouldnt touch any of the settings if I was you since you didnt even know what it does. The utech is capable of doing some serious damage to the car so dont touch any settings. But just to bite your curiosity. You can connect a USB cable to the utech and to your laptop then launch the program and then turn your car on and it will tell you some really cool things about your car. Im not going to explain because I dont want you messing something up then blaming me!!!!!

I would never buy a car that was modded without really know the owner. The car was most likely beaten on. I wouldn't mind all the extra stuff on it as long as I knew the car was well taken care of.
Well the dealer said nothing about the car having anything done to it and i wasnt thinking to take off the glove box and check for a tuner mod at the time...anyway i checked the tranny oil and it isnt bad so unless its been replaced recently i dont think the cars been run hard. i live in palm beach florida BTW if anyone knows a good place to go to?
