Technically, they can replace just the synchros. But remember there are thousands of small parts in a tranny that they need to take apart to change a few $5 synchros, and the hours of labor and all will cost them more than it would to just swap out a new tranny.

I'm surprised they take care of normal wear and tear under the powertrain warranty... 2nd and 3rd gear synchros are usually the first to go.

Synchros are usually considered wear and tear parts, but Infiniti is rather generous with their warranties.

our cars are known to have premature synchro failure without any abuse and that means infiniti is obligated to take care of that problem without any questions like they do most of the time.

So would it matter if I'm modded with aftermarket clutch and lightweight flywheel? Damn... I don't think it'll matter for me... I'm almost at 70 and I don't think I can get the tranny to start grinding in time...

how common are 2nd gear synchro issues with these cars?

I have an 05 6MT coupe, I got it used with only 19K miles on it but 2nd gear was grinding/hard to physically move the shifter into...

The dealer replaced the entire tranny for me but 2nd gear STILL feels harder than the other to shift into and I hear a click.. is this normal for these cars?

i actually never got my car fixed. the dealership that i bought it from (not infiniti) told me nothing was wrong with it. and when i drove it for them, it didn't do anything. but it has grinding with the clutch all the way in a couple of times. usually only going into second gear do i hear the click but not everytime. it also feels like i'm hitting a wall sometimes when shifting into second. i dunno how common it is for these cars to have this problem, but seems like a lot of people i've been talking to have had it. i'm still considering taking it to the inifiti dealer and having them look at it.

if it's still under warranty it doesn't matter to infiniti, they'll still fix it for free

good luck girl

I had that problem with 2nd gear, went to my infiniti dealer where I bought the car and they replaced my entire tranny under warranty.. I'd suggest you bring it to them
