Overheating 2006 Coupe???

Today I was sitting in my idling car while I was waiting for the rain to let up. Suddenly I looked at my water temp gauge, and the needle was up to the max (between the last 2 lines). I had never noticed this happen before, and I’m not sure if this is normal for the G35 or not; but it’s never happened in any of my other cars. Is this normal for the G35 and is it signs of anything to worry about???

By the way I have a 2006 coupe with a stock motor and zero engine mods.

No that is not normal, sounds like your coolant is low or leaking. I would take it in to have them look at it. Could be something simple like a air pocket in the system.

Is there any coolant in the reservoir or is it empty? I had air in my system not long ago and my needle jumped up. I let the car cool, cracked open the radiator cap to vent and added coolant to the reservoir. Car went back to normal op temps. Hoepfully, your issue will be as simple a fix.

So if you put your hand on the lower hose (with the engine warmed up/overheating) and the lower hose is not hot at all.... what does this mean? Does anyone have an answer to this?

Does it mean the t-stat is stuck closed? I am having an overheating issue. the car got hot, I checked fluid level and it was a tad low. Filled it up, squeezed both hoses while the car is running and HOT and only the upper hose feels warm, the lower hose does not feel hot at all and it feels like no water is in it. I have done nothing to the car in a few days.

Just got my car back yesterday from the dealer after it was there waiting to be worked on for 5 days. I spoke with the mechanic. He replaced all the fans as one was on the verge of giving up. According to my ECU's log, there were no recordings of excessive temperatures, so my motor should be OK. Recall that my car only overheated while idling for a short while.

If your car is overheating, have it checked out. The mechanic indirectly hinted me that these fans were known for having problems (water getting into them... he wasn't too clear with this).

Thanks. I checked the fans first and they are blowing rather well, so that is out. I was just wondering if this was a common problem and someone could point me directly to the problem.... but no biggie, I'll just start diagnosing it this weekend and see where it leads me.

Overheating....not a good thing!

Check both your radiator fluid level/overflow tank, if they're full chances are
the issue is with your thermostat which is under warranty.

For others who read this another thing that can happen is air is stuck in the system. Your temp gauge will move around a lot and can jump way up for short times. There is a plug on the back-pass side of motor on the coolant hose to vent air when the system is cool.

my 05 coupe with only 35k miles overheated while driving, pulled over, white smoke and coolant spilled all over.....the temp gauge did not jump around at all..and all this crap happened so abruptly..............infiniti paid for the tow and stated that there were air bubbles trapped in the system...they drained everything, and added new coolant.....they gave me a ride home and back..........i thought everything was under warranty, but it was not...........im going to follow ttrank's advice about venting the system when the system is cool...because your car can overheat for no reason.

thanks for the info ttrank.

FSM states to fill radiator and overflow tank. Open up the bleeder valve and fill the radiator slowly until fluid spills out of the bleeder valve. Run car til warm and coolant is circulating. Repeat process as necessary.

you have the exact issue i am having with my enginer thermometer rising while idling. My coolant is at max, no sign of leakage. The needle starts to rise like after idling for like 40 minutes.

However the problem seemed to have fixed itself the other day. Checked my fans. Not sure if both fans are suppose to be spinning, but when I turn my a/c on it takes a few seconds for the fans to start. but only one fan is running. The other fan i tried to manually push it and then it started up. I did a few more tests to see if this was normal behaviour for only one fan to be on. So i turn the a/c off to see if my fans would automatically kick in when the engine got hot and it does, but sometimes only 1 fan goes on and sometimes both. Is this normal?

The one fan runs with the AC to blow air through the condensor, the other fan runs to cool the radiator
