Pardon the Ignorance but some simple mod questions

First of all, I love the new G. Seems to be okay so far.

As far as mod goes, I'm a real amateur when it comes to cars. What are some little simple things I can do to my car to make it better. I have an AT/Diamond Graphite/Graphite - Gonna get tint in the next few days. What else is easily done to improve the look and feel of the car? I'm coming from an E36 BMW so I have some sort of sense of mods but am a complete Newbie to Japanese and Infiniti's. Hopefully someone can give me some basic ideas and places I can get them and price and DIY factor is a plus. Like I said I'm not too handy with the tools.

Simple mods to do with minimal 'wrenching skills':

-K&N drop-in filter
-Z-tube
-Pop-Charger or Stillen Box
-Hyper-Ground System
-Clear Corners
-Fog/High bulb change

Other mods depend on how non-handy you really are, but I'm sure I'm missing some of the easier ones.

Read through the Tech Forum threads to get more ideas.

By "making it better" do you mean faster?

301-bhp!!! ...and growing!

"better" to me means everything. The look, feel, handling, power, speed. Everything that makes the car a better car than what it is now.

I'd go with Hyper Grounding, Intake, such as K&N Typhoon or the like (or drop in K&N and Z-tube), clear corners, and headlight upgrade.
New wheels and tires with improve handling a little, but are very costly.
Then all you got left is an exhaust system and plenum upgrade which wouldn't cost a lot for someone to install for you.
The easiest and cheapest way for me to make mine look great is to keep it clean and waxed.- it runs better that way too.

Save the grounding kits for later and only if you have a whole bunch of money since in reality it is primarily for your brain though this is not the time or place to get into this topic.

I would start with the basics like clear corners, Z-tube, pop-charger, etc.

mrman_3k,

"Save the grounding kits for later and only if you have a whole bunch of money since in reality it is primarily for your brain though this is not the time or place to get into this topic."

May we assume you speak from personal experience with a quality hyper-ground system on your G35?

My "real world" experience differs significantly.

Re: Pardon the Ignorance but some simple mod questions

I conducted several measurements in controlled conditions before and after the 5 wire kit and then a 6th wire addition and found zero differences. Absolutely nothing. I measured idle speed, time to start, shift points (speed engaged), time to shift, quality of shift (hard/soft); used a stop watch and camcorder with sound in a double blind type experiment with 3 different subjects. Also performed HP readings with G tech Comp and found no discernible diffs although this tool has about a 3 HP margin for error to begin with.

Then, just for kicks, I performed an ECU reset and DID find differences in idle speed, shift points, and throttle responsiveness.

Re: Pardon the Ignorance but some simple mod questions

Can someone post a place where I can get some things like the Z-tube? Have read a lot of good things about it and maybe someone can explain what exactly it does? Also how about a good retailer to get the clear corners as well?

Thanks guys.

Re: Pardon the Ignorance but some simple mod questions

I bought a grounding kit........(OK.....maybe ...just maybe it does something....???)
I dynoed a bit higher with the Z tube and by moding my stock airbox....than I did with the Z tube & Pop Charger.
Then a Greddy Exhaust.......

Re: Pardon the Ignorance but some simple mod questions

The biggest difference you can make with this car is tires. Wheels will help too, but are a big investment.

Get some quality rubber and the car will stick like glue. The stock tires are good but only good.

That was my only complaint when I bought the car. If you can spin the tires going from 2-3 gear, then you are overpowering the rubber. That was my thoughts and was confirmed by changing tires.

good luck with the G.
