BMC World Champion Filters
Has anyone considered a BMC filter as an alternative to the K&N panel? A bit more expensive (list about $95 USD or on sale for about $73), but after looking at these things, I'm seriously thinking of replacing my Pop-Charger, selling my old K&N, and getting one. I test fitted their panel filter in my OEM airbox, and compared it to the K&N I have in there now.
They're made in Italy, used by many World Championship cars in F1 and American Le Mans Series. They look to be better engineered than K&N, and should flow a bit more air due to the design, and superior construction (to the K&N). Apparently, they've only recently offered the filters for general public and street car uses.

Boy you guys will buy anything!
I got lots of land for sale.
Nothing beats the oem dropin filter........considering price/perfoprmance/filtering etc.
Why not measure the power with no ZERO filter element in place, you will see its the same with any brand if the dyno is accurate and the operator does cheat to get you to come back and spend more money.
If you make the first test run with no filter, putting a filter in place on the second run is just as likely to raise power as not [oil/tires are hotter].

Pleeeeze - this thread is for those of us who want to spend our money without some uneeded BS that wasn't asked for. Save it
PS a K&N will save me money over manufacturer replaced paper ones...what's your problem with bashing everyone who gets an oiled filter...we don't need a filter policeman around here. Please start a thread with your opinions on the matter and let the rest of who would like to discuss these things alone...thanks

Re: BMC World Champion Filters
The question was asked, "Has anyone considered" and it looks like Q45Tech has answered that question with his opinion of why he hasn't considered it.
I'll chime in as well,
No I haven't considered it either as I don't feel gains are to be had with the filter due to flow as it has been pointed out that you can't improve much on zero (hyperbole used here).
If using stock air box and one desired an oil/cotton type filter, why not just go with a K&N which are easily found locally without importing exotics? If I go back to stock air box, and I may, I'd most likely go with what is most widely available and found locally knowing that the gains would be practically immeasurable in this particular application.

Re: BMC World Champion Filters
Well, the performance gains may not be had as I've always been skeptical of some claims of HP, etc. as well. Certainly my experience with the Pop-Charger bears this out which is why I'm planning on removing it. An oiled filter is a good alternative to the OEM due to replacement cost, etc. I just think that for a little bit more than the K&N, the BMC might be a good alternative, especially given what looks to be superior construction and engineering over that of the K&N for those considering this. A bit of "Italian Exotic" under the hood can always be a good thing right? As far as I know, the BMC has never been brought up as an option before.
As far as OEM filters in general, it depends on the filtration efficiency as well as flow rate. Just because the manufacturer specs it into the car, doesn't mean it's the best. If they can save $10.00 per car, in a production run of 2 million cars, they can show a profit of $20 Million to shareholders where the car buyer notices little if anything that would justify the extra $10 spent! The In-Cabin filter is a case in point. There are no filtration rate data provided, looks and fits poorly, for about double the price of many aftermarket filters.
For some reason on this forum, some will vigorously defend what THEY feel is the best mod and shoot down anyone that has an opposing view with negative comments, often times repeatedly. Many newbies and others say they don't post negative reviews of popular mods because they are afraid of getting flamed.
Same thing with newbie questions. Not everyone has the time nor experience of navigating the boards efficiently, so lets try to not make their first post so unpleasnt as to drive them away.

"The question was asked, "Has anyone considered" and it looks like Q45Tech has answered that question with his opinion of why he hasn't considered it. " Yes plus some

The point of these type of discussions are to avoid all the BS and get to the answer. I honestly think and am probably the last to even consider that there are some on the board who would prefer that the board loose all its members and dry up. It's a consipiracy theory but the same minority of folks seem to have an interest in clogging the threads with thier heresay and strong if useless opinions that usually dont answer the question. What happened to the pay only idea. It's worth hundreds to me to get rid of some of the attitude around here especially the newbie attacks. I have 10 people a week discussing mods off line as they are too worriesd as newer G owners to get into the snottiness. I dont blame them but think these folks could be better served by some common courtesy. Being right seems to be much more important to a few...

Re: BMC World Champion Filters
I'm not sure I'm following the tangent about the newbies or what it has to do with Q's comments but since it's mentioned I only wished that when I was a newbie I would have found Q45 and his actual factually based commentary (he's listed actual airflow measured) before I wasted $300+ on mods that weren't they were what I thought they were cracked up to be. Of course this opinion is based on what my mission is and what I'm looking for in a mod, "your mileage may vary". He (or any of the conspirators) could have crapped all over me for all I care for that kind of savings. To each his own I guess. I agree it's not a great idea to scare away newbies.

Once again your opinions differ from many many others regarding the aftermarket air intake. He can offer his opinion as can you and I, but none of us do any services prejudging the benefits of an pretty much unproven mod. If we belong to an OPINION forum then we might all consider that unless we have some facts about the item under consideration specifically and have little to add that we let some others do the land sales.
I had the very intake that is supposed to cause a problem with the ac lines. Not a problem for me - neither is hydrolock unless you dock launch the car or drive into waterfall or drive into a stream 2 feet high. And 1 hp is horsepuckey even as I mail my injen to the highest bidder. The car with the injen is more powerful than stock at higher RPM where there can be no accurate dyno measurement in context of real world high speed driving. Arguments about tourque loss are much more valid than no hp increases IMO. But opinions seem to be worthless for this forum since there is only right and wrong and the percieved wrong are lambasted by the minority.
Just because someone has numbers doesn't mean they get to ram their unwarranted "tangent" about swampland or real estate. Its uncalled for and reminds me of the civic forum my sister was on in the mid 90's.

Re: BMC World Champion Filters
Just trying to get some members to measure alleged improvements promised by mods. The whole after market industry relies on the fact that few will do so and most take their word for things [improvements] as gospel. It is so easy to measure air flow restrictions/improvements at least to the plenum.
By the way members can buy Infiniti parts [air filters etc] from various INET sources [really dealers like Scotsdale] for 25% off list [more in quanity].........makes filters more palatable considering dealer retail markups.
In some ways I agree that Nissan quality has been slipping on filters [especially oil filters] and there may be better filters out in the world......but they [air filters] usually don't have oil on them.
The MAF is so very sensitive and also has an integrated air temp thermistor exposed to air flow.........oil film just raises havoc with calibration and delays the almost instaneous response to changes required........sluggish in transitions.
So far this year we have replaced about 10 MAF for old age and funky responses......granted these are older models on Q and J30/G20........a few times some have been brought to near normal with cleaning but most were not requiring replacement...........I examined a few with a microscope and the elements were attacked by something [maybe ozone or a oil breakdown product or a combination].........a few had internal problems in the wheatstone bridge electronics.
Anything I'll try to sell you will be on ebay [cheap used test equipment] or at your local autoparts store.
Just like the recent rash of aftermarket Hiflow Cat Failures on G35/Z, components have to be tested on the vehicle not a generic copy fit all model made to work.
