Yes, dont waste your money on anything else but a TT kit or Supercharger. Gains, let's see. With some supercharger brands (Ati procharger, vortech) You can get mid to upper 300's to the wheel HP and mid 300's torque sending you to about a low 5 sec 0-60 to upper 4 depending on boost, tuning etc. Witht he TT kit, there's ia lot more power being put down and made. There are some kits (Greddy, power enterprise) and a few other coming out that are giving high 300 to low to mid 400 hp to the wheels and crank for HP and torque. Im not an expert but there are a few people with both set ups. 2 member's on thsi board who you can talk to are Zimbo, he has a supercharger and gurgen he just got his PE TT kit installed and is putting down amazing times and numbers at low boost. If you want to keep your warranty in tact, get wheels. If you want to take a risk you can just afford an unpolished Vortec Supercharger. Now getting it installed, buying gages, and all the other stuff will cost you another $2,000-$3,000.
I'd say keep saving or take out a small loan and go FI...

Re: Have about $4000 spend.. What should i get?
just to throw some prices out there that ive looked into...
a tt installed and tuned here in houston at sgpracing costs $2,300 installation + the greddy $6,000 twin turbo kit. I would be willing to bet that the stock clutch would not be able to handle ths power and u would be looking at prolly another $1,000 to replace that. I was thinking of going turbo but then realized it would be about $9,000, even tho the actual turbo will run u just under $6k.
Supercharger is kinda the same story. $5kish for a blower, $2kish for install and i PERSONALLY would not trust the oem clutch to handle 400 whp (prolly close to 470-500 to the crank). so i would think that a supercharged setup would run pretty close to $8k.....
that would just be me and being in my situation where i live and not knowing really anyone to do a cheaper install. I believe that southern cali has a lot more shops than houston texas does for this sort of thing and u may get more competitive pricing. If anyone wants to correct/change/comment on what i said.... go right ahead
now for my opinion.... i would go with f/i if u already have all that stuff and are looking for performance mods. I personally am saving up $3k for volk gt-c's and then im gonna sell my stock 18's + tires for a little over a grand and get exhaust and possibly cats (or stripped out stock ones). I am probably not going to ever go f/i just because of costs and resale value on a modded car. I will probably not have the financial setting to be able to purchase/install a twin turbo until i am out of college (junior in high school this year), and i will probably be saying later to the g by that point. Just remember that that $7-10k ur dropping on f/i will not be figured into the resalve value of the car. My friend bought a '97 m3 stock for 20k with 70k miles on it and u can find mid to late 90's m3's with dinan s/c's for 20k with less miles on them. If i was looking at used cars, f/i would almost be a negative point to me more than a positive because of the added stress it puts on the engine. thats just me tho.
i say if ur into looks dump some cash into getting some nice wheels, slam ur g with full coilovers, and u will probably be done with ur $4k burning a hole in ur pocket .

Re: Have about $4000 spend.. What should i get?
I agree, the VQ35 doesn't respond incredibly to anything but FI. Exhaust on the Sedans is a wise investment. The only way you're going to turn your G35 into a beast is with FI. The FI results I've seen have been EXTREMELY satisfactory. I supercharged my 97 Maxima 5Spd (Vortech) and even added the 10 PSI pulley and I didn't come close to adding the power that these do. I say about 70 WHP with that addition. I'm seeing near double that on some FI applications for the VQ35. That in combination with RWD (Maxima was FWD) is plain monsterous. However, after going through two VQ30 engines and three 5spd trannies, I'll keep this one naturally aspirated.

if you want better perfromance for 4 Gs?...trade in your G and get a 04 VETT!...or you can spend on wheels and tires for 3000~ish, plus spring and swaybar 1000~ish!...most, if not all of the FI will be more than 4 grand...way more!

Re: Have about $4000 spend.. What should i get?
Nice post, Raznips. I fully agree with you. Most people fail to consider the incidentals(like installation! and taxes), so the cost out the door is higher than what you think. I'm in the same boat- could spend about 4k, and get tempted by the sale price of some of the fi kits. But resale is a loss, and a older M3 is affordable, until you have to get all the out of warranty work done. I think I'll keep dreaming of a $2500 turbo or SC kit that I could bolt on myself.

Re: Have about $4000 spend.. What should i get?
i turned 17 on june 30th
I'll start out by saying... i am a spoiled little brat... so please dont say anything else about it. I dont make car payments or insurance payments (although my insurance is not a lot since im listed on a '93 suburban that we keep strictly because of the money it saves us on insurance) I dont pay for gas (have a gas allowance).....
now i will say this tho... i make straight A's in all AP classes... i am scheduled to be done with my first year of college before im out of high school so i'll save my parents a lot of money on that. I made a 1370 on my SAT's last year at the beginning of the year (first semester of sophomore year). I do a lot of charity work for a boys charity organization. And this summer i am interning at a commercial realestate and brokerage firm in downtown houston working ~50 hours a week (10 hour days). The summer job is where im getting all my money to put into my car. My dad pays for the car but told me when i got it that i better get everything i want from the factory cause he wasnt gonna put another dime into the car after i got it. working ~50 hours a week for 10 weeks this summer is not somehting that any of my other friends are doing..... so u gotta have at least a little respect for the fact that im trying to do what i can.
o btw.... i drove that '93 suburban (194k miles) for about 11 months after i turned 16.... so it wasnt like my parents just went out on my 16th and bought me a car. They made sure that i would be responsible and keep my grades up and stuff and things like that. They also wanted me to prove that i could take care of a car (a shitty one) before they got me something nice and i abused it.
