are you guys checking everything else to make sure these are all ok? thread width and length of the filters are just 2 factors, you have to make sure the internals are all made for that specific car like if there is a valve inside and other things. i get worried about putting a different filter on a car just because its a little bigger.

There is a bypass valve in an oil filter.

When the filter media becomes clogged or so blocked oil cannot flow well, the bypass valve opens and allows the oil to circulate through unfiltered.

Some also feature anti-drainback valves which keep oil up in the engine rather than letting it flow all back into the pan once you shut your engine off

yes, a valve, just like stated. some of those valve are activated at different pressures, so if you get a filter with a valve that opens with less pressure than was originally designed for the car, oil could possibly be going through unfilterd. and the other valve he mentioned is for dry starts. if the oil if kept in the engine instead of draining back into the filter, this helps lubricate the engine right away at startup

It takes some juice to get through the shell of a quality oil filter. The strength of this shell is very important. If the shell is too thin or poorly joined at the base rupture can occur. Rapid loss of oil and pressure will result in engine damage. Measure of the shell strength is referred to as burst pressure.

Just got one yesterday at a NAPA store. It's a NAPA GOLD 1356, cost $7.95. Got it along with a case of Amsoil 5W-30 for my switchover to synthetic.
