I used the Napa Gold M filter when I changed my oil last time. It's a little larger in capacity, and fits just fine. More filtering ability means cleaner oil (within reason of course). It's a no-brainer. BTW, I used Amsoil 5W-30.

While your filter seems like a good one it is not the size of the can that determines filtering capability so much as the material contained within. Some smaller filters will filter out a finer particle than a much larger filter. The media however can affect flow capabilities of the filter and I believe that condition is much more likely in a smaller filter where it may be more tightly packed. Another factor is just how much in the way of particles can physically be held inside of the filter can before no more can be held and the filter goes into bypass mode. Haven't seen figures on this for a car lately but many motorcycle filters have this number available and it seemed in their case to be about 25 grams of typical particle size for many.

There are most likely other filters that will fit on our cars. To me it would make sense that you want to match up the filtering media capabilities as far as size of particle (lower if posible), at least the same flow capabilities, can bursting pressures, bypass pressure differential (close to the same), and an increase of particle storage capabilities.

All good points, and I personally wouldn't go cheap on a filter. The NAPA Gold series is made by Wix, and there's no real difference between the G35 and M35 engines. There's another thread related to this where someone dissects the specs of the 2 filters, with the conclusion that the M35 is totally compatible, and in many respects, superior to the G35 version.

The M and Maxima filters are just a touch longer. Otherwise they spec out exactly the same. One can visit napa's site to verify. I've advocated the maxima unit for years here.

Will changing your oil at a place other than infiniti/nissan void my warranty?

No. Many people here change their own oil at home. A car manufacturer cannot require that you use them exlusively for maintenance in order to keep a warranty intact. It's federal law.

you got any advice on filters?
lol I did not see your post, I just grab K&N or M1 Filters when they bundled them with the Castrol. They are both made from the same company.

yea, I do it at home, and I scan in the receipt and put it all into a word Document so I have an online and offline copy.

I sent an email to K&N since they did not have half of what Wix list on their filters, I just asked two questions. About the By-pass Valve and burst pressure.

Both HP-1008 and HP-1010 have by-pass valve setting of 11-17 psi. All K&N HP series oil filters have 500 psi bursting strength.

Alright, time to revive this posting, only been a month. I have decided through research and dedication that the Wix made Napa Gold oil filter is the most filter you can buy for your money. Absolutley outstanding and you can buy in bulk. The options for the G35 are the 1356, huge monster, and the 1365, closer to oem. Now, I read a thread online of some guy who spoke to wix and was told there might be issues with the 1356 because the base plate comes out .10 of an inch more than the 1365. I think Wix is covering thier ***'s. My question is this. All Napa Gold 1356 users. Do you leak oil? Do you love your filters? Answer now and rid me of my fears.

Thread link? I've been using Napa gold for years on my maxima and now on my G35.

Not sure how I'm supposed to be able to "love" or not "love" this filter. There's almost no quantative way to determine how well the filter is performing unless you can somehow extrapolate it's performance from the UOA data. You take a look at the construction, filter micron rating, the history of Wix and make your choice.
