oil filter for g35
Thanks a lot, was pretty certain everything would be fine with having a big 1356. Appreciate you sharing your experience. When it comes to your love for your filter though. How did you fit it in there? J/K. Napa Gold/ Wix/ Amsoil, seem to equal the best oil filters available. Time for me to pick up a box of 1356's.
reviving an old thread.
i was looking up parts number for the wix/napa gold oil filter and it looks like they changed their parts number to wix 51358/ gold 1358. I was wondering should i buy the old filter(1356) or just buy the new one that they offer now?

This kinda sucks now because I've kept all my receipts from doing my own maintenance (for extended warranty purposes) over the years, and basically, if I ever have a problem going forward, I will now only have records showing that I was installing the wrong oil filter. WTH!
I know they work and all, I just hate to think that the dealership could have something to give me grief about now since Wix went and changed their recommendation without any reference to the old one being superceded; it's like they just ommitted any record of it ever fitting.
Here's specs on the new filter:
Detailed Description:
Style: Spin-On Lube Filter
Service: Lube
Type: Full Flow
Media: Paper
Height: 2.782 in.
Outside Diameter (Top): 2.685 in.
Micron Rating: 14
Thread Size: 20X1.5 MM
By-Pass Valve Setting (PSI): 8
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Beta Ratio: 2/20=13/52
Burst Pressure (PSI): 265
Max Flow Rate: 8-10 GPM
Gasket Diameters:
Outside Diameter: 2.475 in.
Inside Diameter: 2.173 in.
Thickness: 0.233 in.
Most noteable to me were that, compared to the 51365, while the micron rating did improve from 19 down to 14, the max flow rate went down from 9-11 to 8-10, and burst pressure went down from 300 to 265. I guess this means it will flow less oil, but filter it better, although it could theoretically burst sonner than the old one.
i actually went ahead and order the old model number through fleetfilters.com since they were alot cheaper than napa auto parts store and other online stores. at 4.84 a filter it isnt a bad price, but you do have to pay for shipping.
I saw their link too, but if you go to the next page of google results, you find this place: (I haven't used them yet, but I plan to check it out)

They list your 51356 at $2.90 ea., and my 51365 at $3.25 ea.
Shipping is steep, but I planned to buy a bunch to distribute the per filter price a little better. Their price on the new part number 51358 is $4.67 ea.
Any of them are better than paying $8.00+ locally

One is supported by the manufacturer for failure, the other is not. That being said, I think either is going to work fine. Since I buy in bulk and I want to be able to show receipts for the appropriate filters, I will just get the new suggested part number. WIx tech support swears the filter is WAY more than adequate to handle the required filtration for the engine; even in the small form factor.
I went to O'Reilly Auto Parts by my house to see if they had the PureOnes and I ended up finding 2 Wix 51356 filters for $6 a piece. Didn't know they sold them. Feel like I scored
Their ultra filters are one of the best ones out there. A few praises from BITOG and other forums.
