My 04 Sedan Auto just started doing this at about 81,000 miles. It has never done it before. sounds like supercharger whine and I only hear it in 3rd, 4th & 5th under heavy load. I was starting to worry my transmission was going out. any one hear this noise?

My car does that too, and it sounds like it's from my intake. Even my brother and cousin helped me on trying to figure out where it was coming from and we all noticed it came from my intake. It sounds like a turbo is spooling up, but that's just it. It's bone STOCK. It happens in any gear that I am in, but it only starts at 3000rpm and goes away between 5000rpm to 5500rpm I'd say. And when I throttle it, it still does it but it's really hard to hear because of my motor. And I believe it's nothing to worry about because my brother and I took my motor apart to see if something was wrong and we saw nothing, and the only reason we went to that extreme is because I just bought it like 4 months and I was just making sure everything is fine with the car.

Have you tried changing the intake air filter?

My air filter only has maybe 5k miles on it. I don't see why this sound would just start all the sudden. I have had the car for 1 year and put 15k miles on it and it never made the sound before.

i hate this, i get it too and on the highway it gets very annoying at times and driving normally the whistling drowns out the sound of the stock exhaust. it wasnt too bad when i was running the stock intake but now with the Z-Tube and pop charger its very pronounced

yeah, I did and I even purchased a K&N filter to replace the paper filter and it still does it. And what do you mean by being pronounced? Like in cabin noise or the whistling just got louder.

to me, it seems like some people in this thread have a legitimate problem with their car. While others, like myself, who describe the sound as being a light distraction at most, might be just experiencing the affect of wind swirling around in our engine compartments. One mechanic began to tell me that it is common with our cars, and he suggested that it was something to do with my exhaust? Who really knows though...?

I have this sound too after I installed my z-tube, MD Spacer and MREV2... I was always under the assumption that it's cause by more airflow. Meh, it doesn't bug me because I don't feel power loss or anything from it. I think it's really cool actually =P
