Hesitation, RPM Dip on Start up

When i start the car the RPM's will rise to 1.5, drop to 500, then settle back to 1.5. The car feels as if it is going to shut off when the "dip" happens. The car did shut off this weekend, but i was able to restart without a problem.

This hesitation happens the majority of times on start up, but occasionally it will start "normally". I am not sure the first thing to look at. The car is an 03 AT with 79k. I have a new battery and am thinking i should replace the alternator since it is 5.5 yrs old.

Could this possible be a fuel injector problem? Any ideas are welcome

Thanks

I had the same problem, I simply cleaned out my throttle body & did an ecu reset by disconecting the battery. If you havn't already cleaned it, this is most likely the problem. Good luck.

Thank you, after doing a little more research i found threads on the internet about Throttle Body cleaning. I figure i will clean the TB and replace the air filter on wednesday and see if i have solved this.

This can also be related to vacuum. Check to make sure you don't have any leaks.

To be certain, I would check both intake and exhaust systems for leaks.
It could very well be that either your Intake Filter, MAF or TB needs a cleaning, but unless you have removed/swapped/touched them recently, I would wager on a vacuum leak.
