RPM drops when starting engine cold

being in Canada the climate gets cold during this time of year. my car is parked outside and when i start it in the moning the RPM drops like its gonna stall then will shoot back up to idle. mind you its not even in the negetives yet, so im scared when it gets that cold it will die. any clue why?

Its cold here in Utah as well. If I start the car the idle goes up to like 1500 RPMS and works its way down slowly.

You could have a vacuum leak, dirty TB or dirty MAF. What does your car idle at when its fully warm after driving for 10+ min?

the idle is fine after i start driving. 700-800ish. so an update. i was right. since we are in the negitives now the engine dies. it would start then completely drop and die. i have to start the car 2-3 times before it actually starts. its really getting annoying

I have something similar on cold starts in cold weather, and this is AFTER I resolved my vacuum leak for the time being (oem plenum on for the moment). When it is very cold here in the midwest, when I start the car, the rpms will drop, then the car will die, UNLESS I hold the clutch in for a few seconds (this raises the rpm). After a few seconds I release the clutch pedal and the car idles fine when warming up. This only happens when it is very cold out (20f or less). When the engine is relatively warm (after driving), and starting it up again, I do not experience the idle drop.

op, try to hold in your clutch for a few moments, before releasing it on cold start and see what happens.

sounds like the same issue. i will try holding the clutch tomorrow morning, but that cant be a long term solution.
