How about Sunroof Open/Close via OEM remote ?

Hey all,

After months of working on it, I can finally announce that I have the ONLY G35 coupe in the world that has the ability to vent AND close the stock sunroof from the OEM remote.

The custom built module tracks the position of the sunroof and always knows if it is open, closed, or vented. If it is vented or open and you hit the door lock button twice (like the OEM window module) then it will activate and CLOSE the sunroof (while it is closing the windows). If the Sunroof is closed or open you can hit the 'LOCK' then 'UNLOCK' and it will either vent the sunroof, or close it and then vent it.

The software isn't even close to being done yet, but its done enough that it works, and works well. I wish I could shoot a quick video of my sunroof closing with the windows cuz its definately a sight to see!

awesome. when do it get one?

i still def think you should make it a programable option where the user can choose wether they want it to open all the way (like i want) or vent.

keep us posted.

Once i get my lazy *** to order.

Daniel your module will be ready as soon as the software is a little more developed. As far as everyone else is concerned I'm not 100% positive that these will be mass produced. This module is NOT a DIY. It is a fairly complicated install with splices into the ignition system, the BCM, the drivers door harness, and all the way up at the sunroof switch. Also, there are some connections to be made at the ignition harness.

I actually had to change software in the window module to get them to play nicely with each other, so I guess I will be sending you an updated chip Dan with the SR mod! I will have to wait and see how much interest there is in such a module, or even a combo pack. If the numbers are high enough I'm sure we'll be pursuaded into making a few to 'test' the market.

i wouldn't mind one of these. I'm comfortable taping into wires.

Just use these wire taps and no soldering is necessary. Soldering will give you a better connection, but I haven't had any problems using these wire taps for my sub and nav install.

I'd probably sign up for this module, of course, only after Daniel has installed a couple to make sure he makes all of his initial mistakes on someone else's car.

If it's not too early to ask, what would those of us do with the current window module? Buy another, trade ours in; pay a slight "upgrade fee"? Just curious... Also, any idea on how much this thing might cost?

Re: How about Sunroof Open/Close via OEM remote ?

It's not so much soldering the wires as it is finding the wires and testing them to make sure they are right. When you get into the BCM harnesses there are at least 100 wires in there, and multiple wires of the same color. We've had more difficulty then expected by people who bought the window mod because of the DIY mentality, even if they don't have the right tools (volt meter). Also, unlike the window module, this module will require you to CUT one wire, but ONLY if you have the window module.

I think that what we will do, if we do anything, is either charge slightly more for the upgrade or something like that. Luckily, since it is only a software change I can send new chips and they can be upgraded in the field.

Due to the much more complicated circuit being used, bigger board, etc... the sunroof module will be significantly more then the window module. Also, the fact that this particular circuit will ONLY work on the coupe doesn't help. The sedan uses different hardware in the car for the sunroof, making this board incompatible with the sedan. If I had to guess, and its only a guess, I would say this one would be around $99.99. I haven't priced the larger circuit board yet, so the price might change.

Re: How about Sunroof Open/Close via OEM remote ?

hey Kevin! Don't forget about me!!
I've been waiting for this mod all Summer!

please keep us up to date and post more info when you can.

from your post, I am assuming that you just need to install the module near the BCM and not have to route any wires all over the place (i.e. to the sunroof)
This is good news because if I had to do that I would probably not like it =P

Re: How about Sunroof Open/Close via OEM remote ?

Yeah, my timing is impecable as always....

You DO have to route wires all over the place, there are basically three bundles when you are done. Two wires go all the way up the A pillar, through the head liner, and come out at the sunroof switch. Next, you have a bundle of about six wires that go down to the BCM in the drivers kick. Last, you have two wires that go to the ignition harness. These wires can actually be moved to the BCM, I'll just have to do some research to make sure I pick the right wires. Oh, and if you have the window module there is one wire that has be be cut and interfaced with, you can catch it coming out of the door (major pain in the ***)

still haven't gotten the window fixed. it works about 20% of the time now, getting worse each day...meaning without the module..
