Tell me if I am wrong....

K&N drop in filter.............good for the performance, esp. the low end

Pop Charge................good for the sounds, louder than drop in filter

Re: K&N filter or Pro Charge??

yur correct, also the poop charger sucks in hot air from the engine, but sucks in MORE hot air, so it kind of balances out...
its your call! i went with the k&n dropin

04 / Black Obsidian / Graphite Leather / aero / splash / prem / perf / cc / 22%tint
z-tube / k&n drop-in / Eclipse AudioVideoNavigation 2454 / side-blinker mod

Factory filter changed every 15,000 miles or 7500 if you are a perfectionist.

Can't wait to hear "why use any filter at all" this will give a slight increase in power and a wow sound.

Re: K&N filter or Pro Charge??

Yea, im also deciding on the K&N drop in or a pop charger. I want to know strictly on a performance's standpoint which one is better? Which one gives better hp gains? The popcharger or the K&N???? I dont care about what they advertise, i want to know what the dynos have said about it. Thank You.

Re: K&N filter or Pro Charge??

Real gains are less than the repeatability error of chassis dynos [usually less than 3 HP] with stabilized oil and coolant and tire temperatures.

They may in fact lower power readings depending on the MAF reaction and how its calibration is affected.

Q45tech
Do you think putting the ztube can lower gas milage? How about the K&N drop in filter? Is there a way to adjust the MAF sensor to compensate?
Thanks

Re: K&N filter or Pro Charge??

If you switch to a K&N drop-in, you should do so ONLY to save money (long term) IMHO. I've run K&N filters on several cars not expecting ANY performance increase (you won't see any). The only advantage you'll see is that for $30 you have a filter you can clean and re-oil. If you don't have a K&N service kit, or you want the dealer to do all your servicing, you're just wasting money. If you do go with K&N, as Q45Tech (or somebody?) posted, be careful not to over oil the filter. You really don't want oil in your MAF!!! My guess is that K&N make money by selling new filters to people who never re-oil them, and expect a performance improvement. OEM paper filters are, in that case, a better deal. If you re-use your K&N, it'll probably take 2-3 cleanings before you break even compared to OEM. It takes me at least 30 min. to clean, dry, and re-oil a K&N, so you gotta look at how much your time is worth too... I put on a Z-tube, because there seemed to be a consensus on this forum that it was benefitial. IMHO, that's BS. I didn't even notice a significant sound difference, which is widely claimed to occur?!?

Re: K&N filter or Pro Charge??

sound difference IS significant at WOT (wide-open throttle)...

thats the whole point of the G35 intake duct, right??

Your ears are defective! The Z tube produces a distinctive
growl at 3500 rmp and above. It is addictive!

Re: K&N filter or Pro Charge??

The MAF can't be adjusted and the wheatstone resistors inside are laser trimmed with the MAF on a jig simulating oem intake to achieve the 2%-3% accuracy spec at idle and max flow.

Changing things after the MAF will have very very little effect, it is what you do close in front within 6-12" that has the chance of changing the air flow shape and thus accuracy.

Within reason the exact AF ratio has little [minor] effect on the HP.

AT WOT: Years of test have show that you need 20% more fuel than the chemical equation specifies [14.7 AF] to increase the PROBABILITY that all the needed molecueles have the best chance to oxidize [burn].........even 10% more fuel than the 20% extra doesn't decrease HP much, usally 2%.

Going 10% leaner than 12.2AF has a higher probability of decreasing power at a much faster rate ~~ 13.4 AF might decrease power by 5-7%.

But if the factory is already super ultra rich say 10-11AF going leaner can help............all depend on what the oem is.
