Smile I just MAY have solved the engine oil burning problem on G...

UPDATE: THIS DOES WORK.....TEMPORARILY. IT IS NOT A FIX.

Final conclusion...Click here.

I found out from dealership my G burns oil at about 1/4th to 1/3rd of a quart every 1000 miles.

Well I decided in the face of that to drive my G....HARD. Went on the highway, did low gear, high rev pulses, speeding up full throttle (til red line), and letting go letting the engine brake the speed. Mostly in 3rd and 4th gears, although sometimes in 2nd. Just for maybe 20 minutes during my drive.

And I decided to drive harder in general, taking it to redline, letting the engine speed sit high close to redline at times, basically not being afraid of letting my rpms sit high up. Just driving HARD, almost all the time, maybe about 60% of the time. For the record, maybe 60% is a bad way to phrase it, because I do speed around 60% of the time as it is, but the 'intensity' is different. Let's say I've put more intensity into the 60% of time that I do have 'fun' when driving.

Well I just checked my oil, at over 2000 miles since the change, I wanted to see that it would be 2/3rd's of a quart of oil gone on the stick. And to my surprise.....it's FULL! Right up at H! And did it properly too, drove around, warmed her up, let sit for 45 minutes, and there she was right at H, when normally she's at half way or less by now. Further more the oil looked much more brown, it used to look more black.

I'm astonished.

...HOWEVER, the only other changed variable, except for that low gear high speed driving on the highway, was my gas octane rating. I've been using 93, all the time lately, instead of 91, not sure if that has anything to do with it, but something to keep in mind.

So how can you tell if your G has this problem before its too late. I've been looking around and its always too late before people find out. I have an 07 and am unsure if I have it or not...

Engine problems occur and then you find out the motor was burning the oil is what I was trying to say

It depends - regardless, mine's not, seemingly so far that is, burning oil anymore. I'm happy.

If at the 3k mile of driving (1000miles to go), I'll officially consider my car to no longer burn oil.

If it doesn't anymore now at least there is a method of trying to solve the problem on your own.

Are you going to just take it easy now, normal driving, to see if the issue returns?

Wellll, my 'normal' style of driving is very hard, I hit redline atleast once everyday. I've just been driving a little bit harder, but yeah I will return a bit back to less hard style of driving. I doubt it would reverse the effects though, I possibly made the rings seal better.

But if after my less harsh driving, does make the burning return, I'll be sure to report it here.

Drive that same way you mentioned. But dont chk the oil till the following morning instead of checking it after 45 minutes of driving hard.

Yep, I did a little more harder driving today. I'll check it tomorrow morning and report back. But I'm sure it's fine, I get pretty accurate oil readings 30 mins after driving the car. Even my last new car I had (rsx). And for the record I bought my car (g35) at 18k miles, its at 30k now, decided to drive hard at 27k or so. So if it's true, that I no longer burn oil, then the person before me (it was a girl , at least the owner was), didn't break it in hard.

And remember just the fact that my oil is now a lot browner than it used to be (used to be a lot more black, yes even at 2000 miles), means there's less blow by going on.

This is not a fix.

I can concur that if you drive your car spiritedly, it will burn less oil. But that requires you to drive like a maniac/douche most of the time, which will only cause more problems in many different ways.

Once you start driving normal again, the oil burning continues.

The only real fix is a new engine.

P.S. Burning 1/4 of a quart per 1k miles is nothing. This is typical for VQ engines.

Ok, the engine/car has been sitting for over 3 hours, in 30 degree temperatures. It IS cold.

I checked the temp in the instrument panel, and it was as cold as it can get on the indicator.

I checked the oil, and as you guessed, or at least I did, still at H, with a beautiful nice golden brown color.

For the record I drive hard, usually anyway, so like I said, I doubt me 'returning' to my 'normal' is going to do much. I'm SURE I helped everything seal better by what I was doing. I'm a believer in driving a car 'slow and cautious' when first bought as to not break anything and ease the car into everyday use, but it needs to be put through its paces to be officially 'broken in', at least in my eyes. It's what I did on my rsx, babied it around and what not, never burned oil but only had 23mpg, I started finally 'rompin' on it, letting myself drive the way I like, I like to romp. And I started gettin 27mpg. Which is what it's suppose to be! 23mpg was preposterous, yes preposterous. And it stayed that way at 27, after my rompage phase.

But lets just say, it WILL return to normal if I decide to drive like grandma (I still don't think it will though). If simple couple romps and blips around town and on the highway every so often, keeps you from buying another quart of oil.....well then what can I say, but who wants to race?
