1st oil change at 1250, Synthetic or regular?

Im deciding on which oil to use for the first oil change. If regular , which brand? Best Synthetic seems to be Mobil1.

IMO after 5000-6000 miles make the change.

It's never a bad thing to change your oil earlier then recommended. It can only help your engines performance.

you want to let the first oil change catch all the little chips broken off when the engine is first breaking in.. i wouldnt suggest changing that early.. wait till around 3k to change

Based on the blackstone oil reports, 1200 miles doesn't look too early. I'd change with regular dino oil and then change again at 3,000. Maybe then consider mobile one. I plan to go to mobile 1 at about 6000 when the engine seems mostly broken in.

Look here for other peoples oil reports:

I went to Mobil 1 at 1800 miles and then changed again 3750 after that. I encourage you to go to www.g-owners.com and study up on what Eagle1 did as well as review the oil analysis archive he keeps. You may also want to go to Mobil 1's website and study up on their opinion of some myths about synthetic oil.

Also remember, that besides trying to get the best synthetic, don't scrimp on the filter either. I too would recommend your mileage as good for the first change, and then again in 2500-3000 miles. Very Important** Check the level of the oil often, because there has been a lot of experiences here with higher than average oil burnoff. I changed my oil at around 1000, then next around 3900.
I only got 3.25 qts out, after initially putting in 4.5 qts and adding .25 qts later on. Mobil 1 makes a good filter, and you might consider the 110 over the 108, cause it's a little bigger. You'll see if you compare it to the 108.
Fwiw - If you're going with Mobil 1, the cheapest place for it is probably going to be Wal Mart. In Chicago, they have 5qt bottles for $20. (for those of you in the area, you know that I mean not in the city proper, thanks to the City Council)

Make sure you have done some good 0-80 MPH full throttle runs to redline after full warmup. Do this a few times with a 2-3 minute cooldown between each run. This will give the engine the whole range of loads and will ensure a smooth breakin. After that, change with M1 5W/30 and keep that in there year-round with changes every 3750 if you do mostly city. I did my first one at 2200 and change every 7500 (70% highway). Motor is strong as ever at 43000 and keeps getting faster. Shocks me sometimes, even after 2 years.

Hey you say keep 5w30 in year round.. I've heard that it's ok to switch to 10w30 for warmer climates.. is there any bad effects of switching like this, or is it fine as long as I drain out all the previous oil before switching?

10W/30 is fine in the summer. But 5W/30 is good up to 100F ambient too. Unless you expect it to be hotter than that, stick with the 5W/30 since it pumps faster during startup when almost all wear occurs. You can mix the 2 viscosities, just try to stick with the same brand.
