you are showing us the bearing journal that sticks out from the bearing cap? are you assuming that the scratches you see are underneath the bearing cap? even so in my opinion even if that were true you would not get a ticking sound from a journal. If it were mine I would put a quart of Rislone in it and drive it for approx. 100 miles, change it with 15W40 (because of 100m miles) bet it goes away.

^^ How do you adjust the valves on the vq motor? Does the head have to come off? Also the car is bone stock. What could make them go out of spec?

its not the valves that you adjust...its the timing gears of the cams which control the valves...as well as the valve springs which push the valves open.

Dunno if thats the case with you, since you are stock and probably haven't changed anything. Previous post was because they had modified their engine.

Also I've heard that the valve lash needs to be adjusted. Is that the same thing? Hows that done?

I have the exact same problem, coming from the front of the engine on the passenger side. Have you had any luck in figuring out the problem yet? I'm at a complete loss...

Bump...

I now too have a nice mystery "ticking"...the great guys at Forged Peformance said they took a quick listen and can't really determine what it is, w/o taking some of the engine down (Stillen SC etc..). I guess I'll just wait until I get the engine re-built to do that, b/c why spend the money now, if I'm going to get the engine rebuilt in say 5-7 years...

Let me know if it's a simple issue/fix (they never are though)...in the mean time, I'm going to change my spark plugs and before that hook her up to the OBDII scanner...

Let me know..

Thanks Guys!
