vdc off, slip on

alright i have an 04 g35x. last wednesday i had my steering rack and pinion replaced and after i got it back the vdc off light is on and the slip light is on as well. when i turn the car on they are both off and if i start driving forward they both come on. now if i start driving forward and turn the wheel to the right before the lights come on there is like a grinding rubbing noise and i can feel the car starting slow down as if i was tapping on the breaks. im taking it to the shop monday cause there closed on weekends but i want to know if anybody knew what it could be. after i got it back the mechanic kept saying how my rims (20's) are to big and they are throwing off the slip sensor and vdc but it hasnt done that for the past 2 years ive owned the car, it did it wednesday after he worked on it. oh and also if i press the vdc off button nothing happens unless i do it right after i turn the car on and before both lights come on

Sounds like there is a sensor that is not connected.

It has NOTHING to do with your rims

lol yeah thats what i thought, i took it in today and he said its cause i have a bearing in my front passenger wheel thats out but to wait to fix it another week or 2 cause he just did the steering rack and pinion and if i come back right away my extended warranty company might send someone to inspect my car and my rims and stuff void that warranty.

I just had this same problem today, but my brakes and rotors are on their last leg, so I'm wondering was this the reason for my vdc light and slip to be on, but in addition to that my check engine light came on. they all came on at the same time. I have a 04 G35 as well.

I'm on the phone with someone now to have my brakes checked out tomorrow so I'm gonna drive it to work early early in the morning and drop it off as soon as I get off.

If you have SLIP and VDC coming on for no reason, I would bet money it is your brake fluid. Check your brake fluid reservoir, if it is at all below the max line fill it up.. The lights should disappear.

^^^+1 , Just remember if your brake fluid is low, it is because your pads are wearing (or you have a leak). Make sure to check their condition also.

Ok...I went to have the car checked out... I had the brakes done and that wasn't the issue. It was the camshift sensor and now I'm gonna get a diagnostic in the morning to figure out which side its on and then I will report back.

I have the same problem but only my slip light comes on. The way u explain it is the same symptom I'm having. I thought it was the bearing too but the guys at the brake place say its not. Please did u get the problem resolved?

I had the same problem the other day. My CEL, VDC, and SLIP lights came on. I hooked up my scanner and it was throwing a U1000 code, which is a communications code. A Nissan tech friend of mine said more than likely its a bad ground somewhere. He suggested loosen, clean, and tighten all ground connections. Including the bolts and contact points on the sheet metal. I havent got around to it yet, and ive cleared the codes since then, which he told me I shouldnt have. He told me he mainly sees this problem on Titans and Muranos, but has occasionally seen this on Z's also. Hope this helps.

In most cases this is caused by the steering wheel angle sensor reading a false angle. For example if the steering knuckle was removed the the steering wheel turned a revolution while disconnected, thus making the ECU think its at 360* vs 0* (wheels straight). Turning the steering wheel multiple times while disconnected can damage the spiral cord in the steering column, yon either attempt to look at the spiral cable and turn the steering wheel back to true 0* degrees or you can have a dealership reset the steering wheel angle to 0* when you wheels are currently straight.

hello
i have an intermittent problem with the slip light coming on, and no power. this happens as i turn the ignition. couple of diagnostic tests have pointed to a problem with the throttle motor relay unit. the problem is ongoing.
cheers
