Y-Pipe / X-Pipe / H-Pipe / Dual-Pipe

Can someone shed some light on the main differences between these or just let me know of a good thread to review... Thanks!

This is to equalize the pressure in both exhaust pipes and keep the engine back-pressure as low as possible since back-pressure is detrimental to high end power.

* H-Style Pipe where there is a perpendicular connecting pipe, resembling the letter H

* X-Style Pipe or X-Pipe where the exhaust pipes temporarily merge, resembling the letter X
Y-pipe is just there to merge 2 down pipes into 1 outlet, as in the the letter Y. 1st gen sedans need this because there is only 1 mid-pipe/muffler.

Dual pipe - not sure what you mean by this, but I suppose it is possible for a car to run 2 pipes that never merge. I don't think you'd want to for the reason given above. Dual pipe could also mean a true dual exhaust with X or H pipe and 2 mufflers.

You might get better response if you shed some light on the context of your question - what are you looking to do?
