idler pulley bearing replacement

hello all. I've been involved with replacing the bearings in the two idler pulleys that i have on my 2006. obviously, the OEM bearings are junk.

so anyways, the part numbers are very difficult to locate. I've called three large bearing houses.

Here's what I need:
(2) NTN TM8301LU (these are pressed next to each other on the wide pulley)
(1) NSK 6301DULX

The 6301 bearing can be cross-referenced to 6301-2RS, very common.

Anybody know the "real" part number for the 8301 bearings? Any help would be appreciated. I don't really want to press them out, measure, then wait for them to show up.

BB

I just replaced my pulley. It cost $20. I only had an issue with the AC idler pulley and that was about 40K miles ago. I'm at 152K now and no problems.

Of course, you can just spin it by hand and tell if you need to replace both.

nobody here has had to replace a bearing more than once like you... $20 for a new pulley makes sense to me if it goes out every 120K miles...

What do these things sound like when they start going out? There's a pulley on my car that makes constant chirp/squeaking sound and is most apparent when I'm in a garage, shortly after starting the car. It's been that way for at least 4 years now. The sound is most audible at idle.

daveB, not sure about your noise. the bearing noise I have is pretty subtle. The pulleys are kind of troublesome, but you may just need to tighten or change your belts.

oh, riverside has these pulley's for $50 each. I think. http://www.riversideinfiniti.com/j/i...bayOnline.html

i got it at www.infinitipartsonline.com

I'd call and verify with them over the phone. I know i didn't pay $50 for the pulley. Maybe I can find a receipt from a long time ago. I'll check into it.

Its been a few years since i bought it though, so prices could have changed.

DaveB

if you pull off the belts you can spin the idler pulley. If it is good, there is smooth operation with no noise. If the bearing is going bad you will feel/hear it scratch and scrape as it spins. There is a noticeable difference.

I have a similar pulley noise at startup which is mostly noticeable in the garage as well. I'm pretty sure its related to the Power Steering pump.

EDIT
I checked my receipts, It cost me $48 + $12 for a new AC belt at the time since it trashed mine. My bad. I thought it was a lot less.

get three of these: 6301-2rs. $3 each = $9 bearings, $21 2nd day air = $30 total. 12x37x12 mm standard metric bearing. most are EMQ grade for 15,000 RPM's. Hopefully these are rated for 20 or 24 RPM version, but other sites sucked. They in TN, so shipping is 1-5 days. accept paypal, google checkout, CC, etc. UPS shipping with easy tracking via the site.

enjoy.

I had to press the old ones out. they are slightly "peened" into the pulley. 1,500lbs on the press pops them out nicely.

I paid about 10 bucks for my pulley, but that was in Japan. The sound is identical to the sound your belts make when they are improperly tensioned. At least in my case.

freakin replacement wasz simple easy. extra "motor" noise much better. replace your bearings.

dust covers/washers are different on each pulley.
