Re: hp calculation ?

I believe the flat spot in the dyno readout is the cams switching over to the secondary (higher performance) lobes.

Re: hp calculation ?

Duh! what second lobes the G35 intake cam just changes phase [retards to the idle position] above 4500 rpm to change the point of intake valve closing to improve high rpm filing.

Honda is the only Japanese that uses multi lobed [more than 2 intake and 2 exhaust lobes] per cylinder in vtec.

Re: hp calculation ?

I hope the "Duh!" wasn't meant to be offensive. The previous cars I've seen with dropoffs like that are Honda and DOHC Cobras, so it seemed reasonable to me. Forgive my ignorance, but nobody else had anything reasonable to say.

Re: hp calculation ?

Damn Q- what's up with the Duh? That came across as being pretty harsh.

I can only guess that someone who knows so much about the VQ as you might expect others to either be as knowledgable or not post. The only problem with that theory is... You'd be one of the only posters on the damn board!

Now how about finding the "nicer" more "gentle" (know-it-all ) that we've all grown so fond of?

Re: hp calculation ?

How about this.

DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder with microfinished camshafts and Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS) for intake valves.

2004 G35C 6MT Black. Killer.

Re: hp calculation ?

In a Technical forum as opposed to a General forum one would be expected to have studied the technical aspects of the engine they own at least to have read and studied the G35 FSM.

Honda ads even push [for years] the fact that they are the only Vtec [trimode via cam lobe] Japanese company.

Nissan has used the oil pressure solenoid controlled intake cam phasing method since 1989 on 300zx, J30, Skylines, Q45, etc now G/Max every 3.5.......Toyota/Lexus copied this [in a way] in 1998 for its V6 and V8.

The Duh wasn't offensive, just something every car nut should know..........whenever I go to G/Nissan/Infiniti/ Nopi/Sema car meets the level of discussion is always high.

So maybe you'll forgive me for assuming Technical members/posters are familiar with the basics.

Re: hp calculation ?

I'm not an advocate of the butt dyno, too many people feeling too much power with mods that do nothing or very little. However there is no doubt in my mind that I can feel the "flat spot" in the hp/tq curve when accelerating.
