Re: Bad day ... IT happened... the engine blew...

Gurgen,

TINMAN has a good point here.
"another thing is $720 for aebs sleeves and $400 to install them.are you sure about that??? i don't see how i can make a sleeve for $120 consider the material cost, lathe, mill, other machine works, heat treat, grind ect...all the work that involve to make a highly pricision piece of part.and then $400 installation charge.that's roughly about 6 hours @ average $65 shoprate.that's an hour/sleeve.pretty damn fast to me.you better look more into this. "

It's true the labor involved is significant. Do your home work extra carefully (not that you already don't) before commiting to anything and be sure of the pre-defined path you want to take.

Don't let this end up costing 2x more than expected. That would really hurt.

May the TT Sedan RIP for now. If all goes well, you will have revived it into a 600+ crank HP monster Sedan.

Tom...

So you are not doing the sleeves... I'm beginning to think more and more that the sleeves are overkill.

Gurgen

Gurgen,
I am putting sleeves so it can hold 800hp.

Neff, steve, Joey, Tom...

I am thinking out loud here... The main source for the 'no sleeves' argument was SGP, they built 600/700 hp Z's/G's... and say that sleeving is not needed for this block.... I tend to not agree at this point.... as there is alot of evidence from people who have done a lot of experimentation, not to mention you guys...

It's jsut that the cost s are addign up fast.... I do not think that I will be doing any head work, though... for that I truly do not have the money... as the ROI is not as great... I will however adjust the valve clearances...

Gurgen...

Re: Bad day ... IT happened... the engine blew...

AEBS' wholesale price for the sleeves is $120, and they said that they will sell me the sleeves for the wholesale price - $720 total.

Darton's price was $950 for all 4, and they would have gone down to $750 if we had a GB on it with 15+ people. Their install (which they themselves do NOT do, is $1000 !)

Sorry to hear about the engine, Gurgen - but you know you've been pushing the limits all along (although as carefully and intelligently as anyone could be expected to do).

I know you'll just do the next logical thing here - you'll just "raise the bar" by rebuilding the engine to the highest known degree of strength, then push those limits as well. Please keep the "reports" coming - you're sharing on this site is invaluable to the rest of us who come behind you pioneers.

Good Luck -

Re: Bad day ... IT happened... the engine blew...

DB.... thanks... will do...

However... I was NOT pushing the limit at all... 5.7 psi is less than what Stillen will be pushing (they do 7 psi for stage 3) at this rpm (4000). And my tune was pretty safe...

Re: Bad day ... IT happened... the engine blew...

Wow! This is why I won't go with any forced induction unless it's Stillen with the warranty. Hell my car knowledge compared to Gurgen's is at best retarded and his engine still blew!!!

Sorry to hear it man but sounds like when all is said and done you're truly going to have a monster! Thanks for being a pioneer and best of luck man!

Re: Bad day ... IT happened... the engine blew...

Off-Topic, but couldn't you do a tuned RB26DETT swap for around $8-9k these days? It probably won't pass smog, but that engine is bullet prof and can go upwards to 500hp without too much trouble.

Re: Bad day ... IT happened... the engine blew...

its not good idea to swap RB26 into G35. first its too expensive. you are looking around $15000 and up because body needs so much mods that you might not be able to keep A/C so you can drop in the engine, also RB26 weighs more than VQ35 so it won't handles as good as before, and RB26 is not bullet proof, I seen that engine blow up at 450 to 500hp stock and also seen fully built engine blow up at 600hp and that was with good tuning.
