burning coolant

yeah this is really fun! so the CEL has been on for a couple of weeks my dad says, im not home a lot so i dont get to drive the g much. i finally get to see it and dad is sitting there in the drive way revving it and says "this is smoking really bad", he revs it to redline and about 3 cubic feet of white smoke that smells like straight coolant comes out the tail pipe. i say "DAD TURN THE ****ING CAR OFF NOW! THATS COOLANT" he goes yeah its bad, revs it again.

i get him to turn off, explain the problem. he gets mad because its going to be expensive to fix and says:
dad: well how am i suppose to get to work
me: drive my civic
dad: ill just take my car
me: just take my civic unless you want to be buying a whole new engine instead of just a gasket
dad: (slurred swearing) well how the **** should i get to work then
me: idk just take my car or else this is going to cost you like $7000 instead of $1000
dad: well (mumbles) ****
me: what would you prefer
dad: fine ill take your car

anyway the next day i call around some shops, and with the help of 4doorgrider i called RS Motors and theyre going to do the job, gotta take it to a legit shop not a dealership because dad is a stickler for quality. this was all 2 days ago and since then mom has been driving the G to work (she works 8 blocks away on sideroads, car never goes above 3k rpm)

anyway on to my question what do you think the chances are that the engine needs to be replaced now?

Funny how you're telling your dad what to do haha. Usually it's the opposite way around.

Your dad isn't car smart though haha. Chances that you have to replace the whole engine aren't that high. You aleady have an idea on what needs to be replaced. Probaly just a gasket. This might help though

hahaha

Some people just make me sad lolol. I remember like a few years back I had an aunt that was driving an older Nissian Altima back from work or something. It was overheating.. there was smoke coming out of the hood and she clearly saw it, but instead of stopping she just kept driving and somehow made it back home to her house.

Problem was she had a simple coolant leak because the hose wasn't connected all the way. I went with my dad to check out the car. He took one look at it and he knew right away that the engine was toast. So stupid lol..

Quit driving the car.

Your head job will run you less than 1,000 if your smart and brave enough to tear the engine apart. Its not dificult.

I rebuilt my entire engine (top side) for less than 800.00

Look for a new engine.

It's not the end of the world, just the end of that engine.
