2.5'' or 3'' exhaust?

Is 3 inch exhaust really necessary on an NA sedan. It seems excessive to me but i figured i would see what you guys thought. Would 2.5 inch not be sufficient for the VQ?

You don't need a 3" exhaust. High HP turbocharged cars run 3" piping.
