I would say it started at about 48k.(first time I herd the noise)
I had infiniti change my oil several times but was never told anything


When does the engine warranty expire for something like that?
Im gonna see if I take it to 1 last deal & see how my luck goes..

 

If I last recall isnt Shell 15/40 for diesel engine cars?

Same thing happen to me. While driving in the expressway i started to hear a knocking sound coming from the engine. The car shut off automatically.. I let it cool down for an hour. After that i turn it on again, and still there i shut off the car. Checked the oil it was almost empty addedd three quarts. Turn it back on and there was no noise. Then i drove a mile and i heard the knocking noise again, then the car shutoff and couldnt turn it on again. No crank at.all. Im getting my engine replace and i dont want this to happen again im wondering if this happens cuz of my cats? I got no check engine light also and i got a 03 6sp.

 

Hey man did you ever fix the problem because mine is doing the same.

 

If you were 3 quarts low on oil and the motor was knocking there's a really good chance you spun a bearing or something that will require a rebuild. When the motor makes those sounds and then shuts off on it's own and won't crank it's usually because the rotating assembly seized.

Or you have a DIFFERENT problem and yours isn't "doing the same".

 

So I purchased this car about 3 months ago. I had a few issues with fluids leaking but got them all fixed. My son drove the car to town and on the way down a hill it started to have a slight knocking noise but not a rod knocking something quieter. It barely starts then shuts off. I am thinking it is a fuel pump is part of the issue but the knocking noise is weird and you can only hear when you rev up the engine. I have read it could be the anti theft fuse and then the chain tensioner also. I am learning about this car as I go but anyone else having this issue with their G35's. Any advice or ideas that I can check would be great! Thank you for any help! Would be greatly appreciated!

 

Is it a sort of "thumping sound" coming from the glove box area? It could be a failing fuel damper.

Record a video of it making the sound, post to youtube, put the link here. An audio picture is worth a thousand words.

 

I know I’m 10 yrs too late😂 but did you ever figure out the issue have the same problem knocking coming from the top end in the front
