What are my odds of oil consumption problems?

Hey

Just bought a 2005 G35 6MT with 70,000 mi, and I love it.

But, I keep reading all the these oil consumption threads, and it has me kind of freaked out.

So far, I've driven it pretty hard for about 3,000 mi, and has not burned a drop of oil. The Oil is as clear as when I bought it about a month ago, and the engine looks very clean under the valve covers.

I've read the polls, and about 100 some odd people complained about OC problems with this year, but how many 2005 MT are out there, how many owners post to this forum. So, I'm not sure how statistically relevant the polls are.

So, what do you suppose my odds are of getting the OC problem, should I start saving for a new engine?

I thought it was an 06 issue primarily.

The issue did occur in late 05 but if you have driven 3k miles without burning a drop of oil, you don't have it.

The issue isn't something that starts later in the engine's live, its something that occurred from nearly day 1.

Stop worrying and enjoy the car

Yup, have a 6MT, so I have a rev up, from what I understand, all 6MTs had the rev up.

Only 05-07 6MT Coupes. And 05-06 6MT Sedans.

You're never going to really know until it's too late. There have been numerous reports of Revups not burning oil for tens of thousands of miles and then all of a sudden the motor starts consuming oil. It's a real crap shoot with those motors. If I were you, I would set aside about $4K for a short block swap at sometime and I'd watch the oil levels religously. Once it starts, there's no way to fix it. The good thing is you can drive with the issue for quite a while and it really doesn't effect performance until the motor is really drinking oil.
