Question "Sweet" smell from rear of G coupe

I have a "sweet" smell, *almost* gasoline like, coming from the rear of my 06 G35C. It's not the sweet smell like straight radiator fluid, so I don't think anything is leaking there. My only guess is exhaust or the tank vent tube, but I can't observe anything coming out of the pipes or see any puddles on the ground.

Noticed it a few months ago when i was backing into the garage. Mid Dec when i took it in for the 60k service, the service guy could smell it while in their open bay (so it's gotten worse), but said the techs didn't find anything and no codes thrown.

Anyone have any ideas or past experience with this? Kind of at a loss of what to test. No discernable drop in mpgs, vent tube was replaced/macguyvered/whatever under the TSB 2 or 3 years ago (still shuts off the gas pump at the station once in a blue moon though).

how many miles do you have?

to me gasoline doesnt smell sweet at all and is very discernable

the only thing that smells "sweet" to me is coolant and that should never be in the rear of the car (barring head gasket failure and leaking into the exhaust...)

Do you have an automatic? ATF has sort of a "sweet" smell to it.

lift up back seat, behind passenger seat is the fuel tank lid. lift up the felt material sitting ontop smell around that opening, if thats the smell then get new fuel O ring and replace it.

It's an AT that just ticked over 61k. Haven't noticed any leaks on the AT. The smell is sweet, but not the same as coolant. Definitely not strong gasoline odor like you'd smell with it sitting in a can, but misted, like out of an injector (or injector cleaner?). Hard to describe that sweet smell part of it, but the best i can come up with is aerosol part of spray paint with a hint of gas vapor.

R6n350GT, I don't smell it in my cabin, but that is the general area i'm smelling it on the outside. Are you saying i can get to the tank lid by pulling the rear seat? I'll give it a shot this weekend and see if i can locate it there.

Maybe someone put sugar in your gas tank as a prank.

The only thing that smells sweet is coolant to me.... Gasoline has a very distinct and not sweet smell. Have you looked at the inside of your exhaust tips? Are there any spots or discoloration?
