what would be a good form of engine management would be refashing similar to EcuTek or Cobb (only available for subaru's) or an interceptor like the TXS UTEC or Torque Chip XEDE (both still piggyback's but much more comprehensive and reliable).
Hope this helps for the WRX guys, response on this from Jack at UniChip.

"The only way the OEM ECU can learn is if the Unichip is incorrectly programmed… and that was a BIG problem with Subaru installations. Basically, some tuners who didn’t understand the system as well as they should have created some mediocre maps which were good open loop maps but which were poorly designed for closed loop operation.

If the Unichip is correctly set up, there is no physical way for the OEM to learn anything. Period. It doesn’t have to be set up “100% perfect,” but the tuner does have to understand what they’re doing and how to tune in both open and closed loop. We do, and the maps are just fine.

The WRX ECU is no more sophisticated than any other modern ECU. The entire problem in the WRX community was for tuners, not from the Unichip."

Then why would you take it personally if he or anyone else has questions or even disses the product or the seller or the manufacturer. Why would you be caling your self the middle man and assisting the v6 site owner in making inroads for selling or introducing the product on other sites? Maybe I am missing too much or need a reread of the thread to figure through all the relationships but, there is an apparent conflict of interest here and all the answers dont add up in my mind.

Some respected members here are asking some very good questions and should not be dissuaded by other members who can benefit from vetting this vendors intentions. Working product or not, I am not going to buy from a vendor who muscles onto a board with a seeming low level of knowledge and can't answer the technical questions our more intelligent, informed and reputatable members ask and hasn't even sponsored the site! Kpierson's allusion to a pandora's box seems credible. There are issues with the product. I can't believe Unichip hasn't ponied up one unit for testing on some G somewhere to proove the naysayers wrong. Maybe the results suck and there's nothing to show? - proove us wrong - defensiveness kills sales Something isn't adding up here.

Yea, I wonder why someone would take it personally when someone else says that their business practices are unethical and casts doubt upon their whole operation. Of course the individual with all these supposed "insider" claims from a "respected source" refuses to elaborate at all, but just continues to sling mud. Why would anyone get defensive about that?

Are you people for real?

Its simple really...

We are a close knit community. Although I haven't actually met Neffster yet I feel like he is my friend. Although I live in Dayton, Ohio I got the opportunity to Meet Sixfive in Philly to hang out and talk about our Gs. Everyone else aside the three of us have been on this site for a long time. All three of us have dedicated tons of time to modding our cars and posting the results on here.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we all know and respect each other and would go out of our way to protect each other from entering into bad business deals. Above and beyond that we are all professionals and have high expectations. If a sub-par 'business' strolls into OUR backyard and tries to push its products on us of course we are going to be offended and defensive. If V6P.net would have taken the time to prepare an informative presentation to us, and became a sponsor of this site, AND had a less controversial product things might have been different. We are VERY particular about our cars and we expect our vendors to be VERY particular about the products they offer. It blows my mind that V6P.net has been working with Unichip this long and still they seem to have less knowledge about the product the the members of G35driver that have read the Unichip website.

On top of all that then we have V6P claiming they arn't selling anything to us and they are just trying to 'help' us. The funny thing is is V6P.net is just forwarding its questions to Unichip. Why can't we just email unichip directly? I'm seriously not trying to be rude or disrespectful but the members of V6P.net have NOT been able to move this thread ahead a single bit. And you would think having the V6P 'manager of product development' participate in our thread would be beneficial. They havn't been able to answer any of the big questions in a technical manner.

Oh, and if you think we are tough head over to my350z.com and start posting.... We are NOTHING compared to them.

I do not understand this either. When Kevin came to our site V6P.net he posted several times about his product that he sells which is a remote window opener. We also started a product poll so he could get a good feel as to the market on our site. We extend the same courtesy to him that we hope he and others would extend to anyone of our members as well as ourselves.

What question have I not answered yet? I would be happy to get the answer to it if I don't know. You should contact UniChip directly. I am not stopping you or anyone else from doing this. Please contact them and get your own testing done for G35driver.com so we can see some independent testing, their contact information is on the UniChip website.

Please note that when you contact them that there is one point of contact. Most manufacturers do not like having multiple contacts for questions, group buys,… Good luck, and I hope for the continued success of g35driver and its members.

Thanks for the patience Garrett. I think the Unichip has potential because I have seen the results first-hand from a similar product in another application. The $800 is a little hard to swallow for some, but as a percentage of the total of most modifications on an enthusiasts car, its really not that much to spend to optimize the ratios and timing to get the most from the mods you have. Sure the TS reflash is cheaper, but to have the infinite flexibility for future mods without reflashing the ECU again is pretty nice too.

I predict some nice gains once someone gets one on their G. A stocker no, the thing is about as close to optimal as most tuners could ever get it. But a car with some exhaust, cats, intake, plenum mods etc. should benefit quite a bit from some more fuel to match the flow. Again, I'm wondering how the Unichip deals with the O2 sensor and the closed loop ECU situation. If left to its own devices, it will counter anything the Unichip tries to do to the fuel map.

First of all I never 'came' to your site. I was invited by members who wanted a product developed. I had never heard of V6P.net before one of its members emailed me. V6P showed me NO courtesy at all. Locking threads and removing them from the site until V6P worked out a deal to share in the profits of a product that KPtechnologies spent hours developing and beta testing. V6P NEVER had issues during the testing period, they never offered to help either. But as soon as the final product was ready to go V6P stepped in and haulted everything. After both sides agreed to a deal an annoucement was made publically on the V6P.net forums. Days later I was contacted by V6P.net saying they weren't happy with the profit margin that we previously agreed on. Instead of being pushed around and forced into an unfair deal we made the decision to back out and basically not sell the product that V6P members asked us to make. Who lost here? The V6P members. It is very interesting that a few dollars could interfere with V6P delivering a product thats its own members actively searched out and had developed.

I am still a member of V6P and I still post on V6P.net when I have Honda information worth posting. Its the only Honda site I post on. My g/f has a 2004 Accord and any time I work on it I post my results. Although the community has little to offer me I make my contributions when I can. Just to make it clear my personal business deals falling through have had NO influence on my opinion of V6P and hows ran.

It is rather ironic though that you quote our product as being a 'remote window opener' as it just further demonstrates that V6P has NO product knowledge what so ever.

Not to get back on topic or anything......

When I installed the Nismo sway bars, my local shop (modacar) mentioned that there was a new chip for the G, that they could program. I like the idea of not having to mail something back and forth (or driving all the way down to SoCal) to get an accurate tune on my car (including any future mods)...so I will be going with the Unichip as soon as I can get my hands on the APS plenum and some high flow cats (any reccomendations?).

I agree that it's a bit expensive...but hey...what else am I gonna do with the money.

Happy copbait? Proof of V6P.net jerking suppliers around. Proof of them breaking agreements. Proof of them MAKING A PROFIT ON SALES which they tried to deny earlier. Proof of them promoting products which they have NO KNOWLEDGE of what they are or how they work (they're just in it for a "fast buck"). If another certified UNICHIP vendor comes on this site, I'll back down totally but with V6P.net, no way!!!

I love the part about how Garret had supposedly has no economic interest in sales of these things but runs back and forth as the go to guy with the distributor. What a joke. If someone wants to buy this thing and see what happens and for how much then more power to them. I'm sure the product isn't as bad as some will construe it becasue of the lack of knowledge so far.

I guess you're still not done yet. So I'll answer your concerns since you keep bringing it up along w/ Kevin.

Kevin: FYI, after speaking with Maurice and the rest of my team back in September about your product, Maurice thought it was best if I handled the negotiations. I made two calls to your office in early October and never received a response. V6P's board had decided to carry your products and it was just a matter of paperwork by that time. We're still interested in carrying your product on our store.

No agreement or contract has ever been signed between us and KP Technologies. We've been in negotiations with them. That's NOT a contract. Contract 101, there must be an offer and an acceptence. I don't like to divulge our negotiations with other companies until its done. I didn't bring it up, but I will respond to defend our company.

Jerking suppliers around? When vendors come to us with new products to put up on our store, we obviously want to make sure 1) It works as advertised 2) Would our members even want it and 3) That the costs of the product would justify the extra work we would have to do to carry it. We always ask for free samples for us to test out and thus far, no vendor has ever complained about it. Wouldn't you do the same? Why doesn't Unichip give us a free g35 unichip? Probably because we are not volunteering any member cars or helping them with any development of that chip. They got their own test cars this time around. Believe me, we've asked. But we're not going to ruin our relationship with them by pushing for a free product. If G35driver want's to negotiate with them directly, be my guest. In an ideal world, we would get everything we negotiate for, but in the real world that never happens. Every deal is different.

So what if we wanted to see if we could get better margins? Aren't you asking the same thing here? Cheaper price for testing? If you ran a business, wouldn't you want the best profit margins as well? That's why negotiations take place.

Go back to Post one, someone asked about the Unichip and we tried to answer based on our experience with the Accord Unichip. Every car is different. We've said from the beginnning that we don't have all the data yet. Unichip is still developing it and its only because of our close relationship with Unichip that we can even get some info out of what they consider an R&D project. We're lucky to even get anything out of them. You goto any company out there doing R&D and ask them about details of a new product that has yet to released and they'll tell you no comment. Why do you think the Unichip rep that was originally on here hasn't posted anything further? Think about it. I wouldn't blame them to be reading this thread and then refusing to touch this forum with a ten foot pole.

In it for the fast buck? I doubt it. We've invested well over 30k into buying up Unichip's Accord stocks and other products for our members. I highly doubt we're in it for the fast buck. A fast buck is someone operating out of their garage. We have an office along with warehouse space to store our products. That's hardly a fast buck investment. Ironically, we started out as a forum just like this one and decided to incorporate to bring and create more products for our members. So before you go further on your tirade against another forum, think about where g35driver is going to be in a few years if not sooner.

Looking back, I guess we should never have posted anything in the first place. Doom on us for giving advance info on something new coming out for the G35. As far as supporting this site? It would be nice to support it. I've been lurking here since last spring as a guest when I was looking at getting a G35 and I like most of the folks in here. I sent an email to the admins requesting to be a vendor and for a vendor contract three months ago when we first heard from Unichip that they started work on the G35/350Z chip. No answer. I sent another one last weekend. Still no response. Supporting it would be nice, but now I'm a bit wary about sending my limited advertising budget to this forum based on our experience here. I'm sure other vendors out there are paying close attention to this thread as well.

There seems to be some major issues that are not being reconciled between the v6p folks and one of the best guys on this forum...guess who has credibiity. Your foot and half long response can't make up the ground between what KP says and what you say happened. I think whatever info you wanted to convey has been conveyed now someone can deal with you if they choose or we can collectively go to the vendor or distributor ourselves. Thanks for coming

Kind of like how you didn't help KPTech develop his product or volunteer any cars, yet made an agreement and broke it later just to MAKE MORE MONEY!

Then you went on to confuse the issue of making money. We don't make money/we do make profit...

Wait, I thought you just said that you've "yet to see a dime"? But then you backed out of a previous agreement because you were not making a big enough profit?

YES I WOULD! And your goonies beat me down for asking to volunteer my time, money and vehicle to do the testing! Remember this thread started off cordially.

In summary, Unichip may be a good solution to the engine management issues the VQ35DE community has suffered through; however it appears that Dizzy should stay on V6P.net where his contradictions don't seem to get noticed... like his lack of knowledge about the products he sells (which he doesn't, no wait, does make a profit on... )

Wow he's so owned it should make him Dizzy...

Why does an accord community care so much if they aren't in it for the money. Maybe they are gone now....

You obviously have no idea of what making making an investment and expecting a return on that investment means. Any profits that we've made from all of our sales have gone back into the company to buy more products, parts and also R&D costs for new products. As an investor, I haven't been paid back. In fact, none of our members/staff at V6P has been paid. All of us volunteered our time, money and energies to making this company work. I talk about profit margins, etc...because that's what I have too look for to make everything balance out. Like any forum and business, we have bills to pay. Any profits also goes into paying bills and paying for R&D, new product stock, etc... Isn't that what a business is supposed to do? Maximize your profit margins? This whole flame thread shows total ignorance on the realities of running a business. How convenient of you to pick and choose things out of context and ignore all the other evidence that smash holes in your entire argument.

Agreement? There was nothing signed. I called twice to get that product on our site but never got a return phone call. Is that my fault? Then SEMA came around and things got busy with our other products and manufacturers that we never got back with Kevin. I've always heard great things about Kevin so we won't be commenting further about our business dealings with him.

This thread started off cordially until someone started personal attacks about our forum and joint members of both forums.

Why should we even care? Because we're not just an accord community anymore and cover various other cars from Accords, Maximas, Altimas, Camry's, Solara's, WRX, TL's and CL's and of course the G35 and 350z. Our members ask and we try to deliver. You want true loyalty of members to a site? For the last 2 years, members of V6P's membership and staff volunteered to visit many import shows and also SEMA Las Vegas to search for new products for our members. We've all spent hundreds of dollars to look for stuff for our members. We had a video and photography crew at this year's SEMA shooting video of new products and pictures of cars for our site. This is all done on a volunteer basis. Why do we care? Because most of us want to give back to a site that's helped all of us in the past.

I live in the ROI world each day of my life..this argument is not going to ever provide a return for anyone. So you didn't manhandle Kevin eh..sounds like you'll have to agree to disagree and realize you'll be blackballed pretty hard as far as promoting anything. Your site sounds great but the reputation of a single member or two is at risk here because of the pitch with holes in it and the poor handling of the questions Kevin brought up. STOP SELLING V6P here. Does Godzilla know his credibilty was questioned here..this should be deleted
