Whiny sound when Cold
Hi all,
05 g35 Coupe. It's been cold recently, and I've noticed a whine coming from what I'm guessing is the tranny when the car is cold. It gets quicker as the RPM's increase. Once the car warms up it goes away.
Is this normal or is there something I should be worried about? Clutch was replaced about 10k miles ago by previous owner (at a shop, papers provided).
Thanks for the help / advice!

are you sure its the tranny.. this has happened to me before (not on my G35) it might just be air build up in the engine, and once you get rolling it pressure kicks it all out.. if you notice when you start going and it makes that noise. it you give it some gas, floor it a little it goes away quick.. i came to the conclusion it was just air somewhere in the engine. Because i never found anything worng with my car. just sharing my experience with that noise, i had a jeep grand cherokee. it could very well be something else tho.
define "cold" outside. If it gets cold like it does here in MN then its most likely the transmission. But not neccessarily in a bad way. When it gets cold here ( at or below like ~15 degrees ) the trasmission will whine on cold start until the fluid warms up. Someone correct me if im wrong, but i believe its an effect the added viscosity of the cold fluid has on the amount of friction and pushing/pulling force created by the helical tranny gears. puts added pressure on the bearings. IDK.
but at any rate, every manual transmission vehicle i have owned has done this at low temperatures. Hell, sometimes when its down around like ~20-30 below 0, the tranny fluid is so thick you have to hold down on the clutch pedal to keep the car from stalling until the fluid warms up... ha
