Burning oil

Hello everyone.

I bought a 04 g35 AWD about a year ago with 120k. The car runs beautiful and clean inside and out.

When i changed oil, I decided to switch to synthetic blend and after 2-3 oil changes I noticed that each time only about 3qrt drained from the engine plus my dip stick is constantly low after 2mo -3mo of driving. I only noticed this since I switched from 5w-30 to synthetic blend . Also notice dirtier oil when I change it every 2500 mi.

Just to add my car sits more than I drive it bc intake public transportation to work.

I understand older cars may burn some oil but this is a considerable amount. I tried 10w-30 for this change still using blend version .

Is this normal or do I have a bigger problem here. Also being that I used blend, can I switch back to reg. I'm not sure the blend type is causing car to burn off oil.

Thanks

That's fairly normal. These engines all consume oil on some level. I usually have to add ~1 quart between oil changes at 4k intervals.

Switch to a good Conventional Like Castrol GTX, how often you changing it?

Also The Visual Condition of most Oils in your car means absolutely nothing.

Thanks. About every 2500 miles. But this past year the car sat most of time due to taking public transpiration to work so I assume the oil sat In the tray most of time or synthetic blend is cleaning out some engine sludge ??

Is it okay to go to regular oil after using full synthetic for years?

Yes it is perfectly fine. I was consuming oil when I hit 100k miles. All 100k miles my car had synthetic oil. When I switched to conventional oil, my consumption slowed.

You want to use caution when changing from conventional to synthetic.

That seems a bit short, if you do short trips 3750 is fine. If you do highway you can possibly go up to 5k.

If you are burning oil there is no reason to let it burn more expensive stuff. GTX is great oil and maybe even better than Syntec(according to UOAs). You can also try depending on your climate 10W30, or even 10W40 to slow down OC.

Just keep an eye on the level, as long as it is sufficient you should have no issues.
