Jim Wolf C8 cams and NVSC
Jim Wolf C8 cams and NVSC
Hi all
Bought my 2003 G35(V35 in Australia) 18 months ago and have been haunting this sight ever since. I have gain heaps of info from everyone so thanks for the help. Currently as it stands my mods are as follows:
Nismo intake
Cosworth intake manifold
Headers
Test pipes with resonators
HKS dual exhaust
Jim Wolf C8 Cams
Greddy ultimate piggyback
Haltech dual wideband controller
Other suspension mods such as strut braces, Sway bars etc
Ultamite goal to run a vortech supercharger @ 9 or 10psi.
I'm fortunate enough to be a heavy equipment mechanic working on Caterpillar equipment at a mine site. So I have sound understanding, as well as tooling at home, to be able to fit parts and tune the car myself.
I have just installed the Cams and run up the engine with the NVSC unplugged and everything seems fine. As the C8 cams have 2.5mm of extra lift and about 30 degrees extra of duration will the intake valves hit the pistons when advanced or retared by the NVSC.

Here is a picture towards the end of the build. All that is now left is to fit front and rear sway bars and strut braces, intake piping and filter, then tune. I contacted JWT about my concerns with C8 cams and the NVSC.
Hi Ben,
I checked with our engineer about your questions. If you are running the factory pistons with the JWT C8 cams, there will not be any valve to piston contact even with the cam phaser fully advanced.
Note that the VTC cam phaser solenoid was not designed to be continuously advanced for an extended period and might get hot and get damaged.
Best Regards,
Ben Pila
