06 6mt P0507, Pinging, RPM slow to drop between shifts
06 6mt P0507, Pinging, RPM slow to drop between shifts
I recently purchased an 06 6MT. It has the 3 symptoms listed and I am wondering if they are all connected.
#1 Code P0507
It will go for a couple of days and then the service engin soon lights up with code P0507. I have completed the TPS learn procedure several times and reset the code but it always comes back.
#2 Pinging
The engine pings on acceleration especially when accelerating slowly. I have ran all the gas it came with out and filled up with 93 octane but she still pings. Timing?
#3 RPM slow to drop
I have also noticed that the RPM is slow to return to idle, when shifting it takes a good second for the rpm to lower unless I release the clutch and force it to slow down. This is my first car with an electric throttle plate, is that the nature of the beast or is it due to it being a "REV UP" engine. I just discovered there was such a thing in another thread.
Any ideas on what I should look at first?
Thanks,
Chad

#3 is related to #1, once #1 is fixed #3 will be back to normal. After that you work on #2.

Well I did the pedal ecu reset procedure instead of using my code reader, drove around for a bit to warm it up, then performed the idle relearn procedure and now it idles nice and low. Hopefully the code will stay away. It still pings a little but my wife has since filled up with 89 octane I learned so maybe that is it what is causing the pinging. I did notice two negative side effects to the low idle:
1) Now I can really hear the noisy lifters. They are embarrasingly loud. This is one of the nicest cars I have ever owned and it sounds the worst. :-(
2) I have to drive about 3 miles in a 20mph zone to get to my house. Before getting the idle set correctly I would put it in 4th and let it idle, it would hold around 25 mph when idleing. Not really a negative side effect just something I noticed.
Those lifters are NOISY, I mean really?
????!!!!REALY!!!!????

As long as your idle is at 650~700 RPM after warm up, you should be fine. When the throttle body is out of calibration, it gives high idle (#1) and a surge when you let go of gas to shift (#3). So once you get it relearn both issues should be gone.
1) Check your oil level and see if your engine oil is low;
2) Your high idle was like giving it gas constantly, so it holds the speed in gear when you let go of gas. It's not safe because it keeps pushing your car forward even when you step on the brake, at the same time it gives more wear on your brake and clutch. You don't want this especially if you'd be driving in heavy traffic.
BTW what RPM does it ping? And the lifter noise? If you can upload the video some people may be able to help you.
