Drive belts

Just changed the drive belt yesterday and this morning when i started the car. It made a very loud squeaky noise, but gone after a few second. Is it because the belt is too tight?

It may not be tight enough. Just changed my belts as well and from what I read you may need to tighten them up in order for the squeal to go away. I am going to be trying that this evening.

Squeeks in a new belt indicate it's too lose, a fraction tighter should keep it quiet....Gary

I have the same problem...changed belts because of squeak, afterwards my belts still squeak. Tightened everything, could it be the pulleys? ^^

usually if it is still squeaking after doing your belts means prob not tight enough or one of ur pulleys are bad.

Lets assume his belts were not making noise before he replaced them. Now they've been replaced, they're making noise. How could it be anything else but they're not tight enough? Only consider blaming the idler pulley if he had noise before belts were replaced and the new belts were installed correctly!

New belts are tighter and the play in old worn out idler pulley are the cause of the noise.
Old belts and old pulley may not make noise due to slack in the belt and do not force the metal to metal grind.
I have gone though this on my 03 g35 with 120k miles- I had cracked belts so I put new belts, installed correctly and idler pulleys started screeching, I replaced the 2 idler pulleys and all noise disappeared. Idler pulley are not that expensive and replacing them is good for other pulley driven units e.g. water pump, alternator, compressor etc. having bad idler pulleys can lead to serious problems with water pump, alternator, compressor etc.

Well said @cvipgo. I bought my car with a whinning (sounded like a Ford p/s pump). I bought all of my freshen up stuff, belts, plugs and the passenger tensioner. No more whinning.

New belts will make older tensioners/idlers squeal

How much did you end up paying for the pulleys man?
