help diagnosing misfire/blinking CEL
Hey guys so a few weeks ago my car learned a new trick to play on me. It would misfire at idle and sometimes while driving. It was intermittent at this point and would stop sometimes but never threw a cel. I replaced the spark plugs with oem from the dealership and it got better for about a week. The misfire started up again and wouldn't throw a code still, eventually it told me misfire in cylinder 5. Took it to the shop and the replaced that coil pack and it went away for a couple days but the problem came back and wouldn't throw a damn code.
A few days later, the blinking cel turned into a solid cel and i brought it back to my preferred shop. The code they pulled was multiple misfire. The noted that when they were testing/replacing my coil pack that they cleaned the MAF as well and it seemed to help the misfire. They cleaned it off for me again and the misfire and blinking cel did go away for the rest of the day. Next day, the car was back to it's old tricks. Would a bad MAF cause multiple misfire without causing the car to go into limp mode?
Could be coincidence but I noticed today with my gas below quarter tank that the CEL started blinking. I drove a bit like that with the misfire at idle and then went to the gas station, I filled it to half and the CEL stopped blinking, it became solid. I also noticed that when the CEL was blinking and the car was misfiring that when I tried to get onto a highway to merge, I'd step on the gas pedal and the rpms would rise quickly but the vehicle speed wouldn't change much. I only notice this happening when the CEL is blinking though.
The car is a 2003 auto sedan with 253xxxKM, bone stock. Any help would be greatly appreciated, starting to get really frustrated with this car.

I don't know if this will help, but I had an 04 Coupe and go the random misfire a few times, but I seemed to always get the intermittent cylinder misfire 4, code P304 if I'm not mistaken. My vehicle seemed to drive ok, but it was slowing changing in a way. I had 173K miles and it was pretty stock for the most part. The problem ending up being a split exhaust valve in cylinder 4. This was discovered after having a garage take a scope to check the cylinder and that is what they found.
I ended up getting my entire engine rebuilt after than and went forced induction. My engine builder said with was probably due to the oil consumption I was having and some carbon got caught on rest seat of the exhaust valve. Maybe you could have a cylinder leakdown test performed and a scope to check out cylinder 5. If its just the exhaust valve, you could just get that valve fixed to solve the problem. Hope that helps a bit.
