Options for Oil Consumption fix for those that out of warranty
Well there are a lot more factors that will affect mpg than just engine size. The reason the G gets bad mpg is cuz its a luxury sport coupe. Most people they advertised to didn't care about mpg as much as performance, so they made the final drive fairly aggressive, and the luxury amenities make the car pretty heavy. But to make it perform like a decent V8 for their target market they had to sacrifice mpg.
2. How could you ever believe that?
Well, as urban stated, Infiniti put it in their catalog, so I can be that far off, second, that's the intention of ALL luxury car brands. Name one luxury car that isn't a 2.0T that gets good mpg and/or sacrifices comfort to do so.
It's called marketing toward your audience, and its real.

Plus now there are many hybrid, electric or turbo-diesel luxury cars with great gas milage. There are several 300hp+ luxury cars out now that get 30mpg or better. New porsche 911 has double the power of the G35 and better mpg. Even the new mustang is more luxiorious than the G35, more features, more power, and better mpg.
Yeah, no shib. But this car wasn't always 10yrs old. Infiniti doesn't advertise the G35 at all anymore. But when they did..
I'm not pretending its anything. I'm not pretentious or delusional enough to think I'm higher than someone because of a car I drive. And I'm not even saying their marketing worked. I'm merely stating their intent. Bottom line is its a cool, fun car and that's all I give a crap about.

Sadly my time machine is broken or your marketing BS might actually have mattered. The year is currently 2014 and those of us living in the present dont use decade old marketing ploys to dictate views of current cars. Just not sure why you wanted me to list luxury cars with good mpgs (of which there are now many) when the G35 is neither luxury or has decent mpg.
soooo.. can we talk about Joker's oil consumption?
Joker.. personally i would hit up bobistheoil guy forums and ask for suggestions...
personally, i would just live with 1 quarter every 3k miles.. adding a $8 bottle of oil is a lot cheaper and less headache than a swap..

There is. Of course manual is more popular, but auto is just as easy. The 4L60E would work or you could go with a TH400

That's a lot different than doing a street legal daily like what Joker would have to do.
BTW. On my old 03 non revup, it drank 1qt per every 3-4k oil change. Car ran fine, didn't foul the plugs etc... There might have been a touch of blue smoke in the mornings. I concluded it wasn't the rings but probably the valve stem seals hardened and were leaking a bit oil past the valve stems and into the combustion chamber.
I would switch to 10w-30 or 10w-40 and see how the oil consumption goes. To those that don't believe the "G" is a luxury car. It is, just because it's 10 years young doesn't mean it's not a luxury car. There are a lot of luxury cars that weigh more than the "G". As far as gas mileage goes, the "G" does pretty well considering it's weight, it also has a 20 gallon tank. Further more, you can't compare a "G" to a porsche. They are in two different classes. It continues to blow my mind that so many people on this site put the "G" down. I know my 2005 "G" coupe isn't light on its feet but, it wasn't designed to be a race car. It's designed to be a Grand Tourer and does that beautifully. Also, I love looking at my "G" and I've had the opportunity to experience almost every car in the U.S.. Ferrari, Bentley Flying Spur, Maserati, BMW's, Mercedes, Porsche, Lamborghini, Jaguar, Corvettes.
While I've enjoyed time in all those brands I'm not ashamed of my "G", although I'm going to purchase a Maserati Quattroporte, after I Pay off my "G" and yes I'm keeping my "G". I have a few more mods to get it where I want it to be but, my journey with my "G" is a beautiful one. I look forward to owning it FOR EVER.

1 qt every 3k is not bad and I'm willing to live with it, but if power and fuel consumption starts to suffer I'll have to consider a fix. So I'd like to have some options laid out before that time comes.
I doubt I'll ever do a V8 swap. Maybe a new bottom end or diff VQ platform.
Yeah, can a mod delete all that off topic junk? This has potential to be an informative thread.
I'm curious about what causes OC. I have an 06 revup and it's maybe 1/2 qt low around the 3k mark. I top it off and change around 5k. Using 5w-30 Castrol GTX conventional. Currently have 156k on the odo.
FWIW, I personally know more people with 04 oil burners than people with revups burning oil. So it's not "just" revups that had an issue.

PS, ill delete my posts (off topic stuff), and maybe whosur will delete his.
I believe the cause according to Nissan is the piston rings. That is why Nissan was only changing the bottom end.
