fuel light comes on when i still have 6 gallons left
fuel light comes on when i still have 6 gallons left
I just got my G a week ago
Filled up the tank when it was near empty and it only filled up 13 gallons; odd I thought
Now today, I let it go until the fuel light came on. It came on and I filled up. This time the pump filled up 14 gallons
So that means there was another 6 gallons of gas in the tank according to spec!
Anyone else have/had this problem?

Now you know.....
I am trying to deplete my gas as much as I can to try BP's gas. I have been using the GPS to tell me how manym iles I have left. Yesturday, it read 6 then I went to buy food, when I got there it read 4. Then on the way back it got up to 1 and all of a sudden its reading 13? WTF?
my '05 w/ nav ...
the light comes on when I have about 3 gallons left
G35_coupe_6MT: the "miles left" you need to understand.
1) it will tell you NO MILES LEFT by displaying "****", at that point you still
have 1.5 - 2 gallons (in mine anyway)
2) when it is displaying the miles left it is using a short time algorythm, for some obvious reasons, let me see if I can explain.
- the MPG display is giving data since last reset averaged over total miles
since last reset. i.e. you have gone 300 miles, and used 15 gallons it will show 20MPG even though you may have had say some of that at 23 MPG. and some 17MPG, etc. it is displaying the average as you'd expect
The Miles Left Display has to be more dynamic, it is looking at a shorter interval. Since with 1 gallon left at 20 MPG you'd see "20 miles left" where if you were flooring it with the same 1 gallon, you might only see "5 miles left"
The car average lateset data (not sure if it last 1/4 gallon, last xx miles, etc) to determine "miles left"
So as you reduce use(like getting on the freeway) it will start rising from say "4 miles left" to say "12 miles left" etc.

thanx for the info. It took some ***** driving till you got the "****" huh? I didnt want to find out. Now that you mention that after NO MILES warning you still have a 1 gallon, Ill wait longer next time. There is always a gas station within 1 mile from where I am driving anyway. I tried to leave it as dry as possible to change to BP gas and see if I could find any difference

This is normal. I never fill up until the fuel meter reaches the empty line, or below it.
When the fuel indicator reaches the top of the E, I have around two gallons left in the tank.
You need to experiment and get to know your G, then fill up when you are comfortable
with the ammount of fuel you know is left.

Yeah, ill try going less mileage next time. I was told that the dirt in the fuel lays on the bottom of the engine and that if you leave refueling for the last, the engine will get the dirt from the bottom of your tank. Is this true? I sounds sort of reasonable if there is dirt accumulated in your tank. Supposedly, its best to fuel before getting to a real low fuel amount.
