Bad Rumbling and Shifter Off Center

Hi all,

I recently picked up an 04 MT Coupe with 84k. Owner said the rumble is from the Flywheel getting used to the (new)clutch.. (never heard of that. ever.) I've tried to rule out different circumstances by putting it through a couple of tests. here's what I've found:

open throttle in neutral: fine
open throttle in 1,2 and a bit of 3: rumbling BAD
open throttle in 4-6: fine
light throttle in 1-6: Ok

so confused. Ive never owned one of these but I do have wrenching experience. Would anybody be able to chime in? Anything helps.

thanks,
Gabe

Odd, I don't really know what this "rumble" sounds like but I would check to see that there is a bolt going through the tranny mount and that it is not just hanging out in the X member, that would cause the shifter to be off center towards the rear. What direction is it off center towards?

leaning to the right. I'll try to get a video and post it later. Also, When I open up the throttle all the way, The shifter wants to move. Its odd.

by the way, thanks for the quick response!

It could also be a bad engine mount. I'm sure that if one of us guys that have been around these cars for years looked at it they would see what was wrong in five seconds, or maybe that isn't the case. None the less this is an interesting issue.

When you are taking a video pop the hood and rev it while looking between the hood and hood cowl with the camera to see if the engine moves any more than normal...

Holy **** man, they F'd something up. You can probably tell if the passenger side engine mount blew out by just shaking the motor with both hands, the car suspension should move before the engine does inside the car. Right now that's my best guess and it makes sense that it is only when you mash it that it starts to rumble, that could be the engine being torqued against the firewall. By driving you could make it worse or even break a manifold stud, be easy until you find the problem. Looks nice out there in Cali... Damn.

Damnit. I was thinking I could be a mount as well. That sucks. I won't be able to fix until the weekend so hopefully nothing gets ruined by then.

ehh don't sweat it, they may have just forgotten to re-fasten a bolt or something like that. Keep us updated...

Did some Research.

Don't think I can void the sale so that sucks. Guess I gotta look into getting the crossmember replaced

I don't recognize that part from so close up, is it the tranny x member or the front suspension x member? Damn!

That's the crossmember for the front suspension. Where the torque mount is
