Best fuel system cleaner? Do they even work?
FYI, higher octane doesn't mean cleaner fuel. It just means the fuel is more resistant to burning.
Though I doubt a VQ with 35K miles needs any sort of fuel system cleaning, your best bet is the BG44K fuel system cleaner which is use by most major dealerships.

I used Redline fuel system cleaner and had good result with it.
now engine starts smoother and stronger, hopefully fixes the fuel tank problem.which is i can never fill up the tank 100%, it stops at 15 gallons now...so 3 gallons shorter than before.

After 10 years of using BG44K as part of annual services, it works very well and somewhat better than a single equal amount of Techron since it contains roughly 4 times the amount of the same/similar ingredents per volume and some fairly aggressive detergents.
Currently use the BG 44k prior [1 tank prior] to my oil changes about every 6-8 weeks [4,000 mile].........tell a noticeable difference in idle smothness within a day [few hours]of application but my engine injectors are 15 years old [278k] so wear and tear and blowby/carbon is expected.
The techron worked for me when I travel away from shop but the effect was short lived seemed like I was having to treat every 2 weeks.......probably cleaned up some but not as much as BG44k.........the Q45 engine with JWT ecu is tempermental when subjected to city driving without frequent blow outs......as are most 32/24/16 valve high compression engines.

I've used the Redline products for years, with good results. I don't notice any difference with the "regular" Chevron Fuel Injector/Fuel System cleaner, but have gotten a noticeable difference with the (more expensive) "Proguard" Clean Up".
Redline was the only injector cleaner "certified" by BMW as meeting their specifications, besides their own brand cleaner, for years.
All that said, if the BG44K is what the pro's use, then that's the way to go (as I learned in drag racing years ago, when they're doin' it for MONEY, they're usin' the best) !
Besides where we can get this BG44K, what does the name actually mean (who is manufacturer, etc.) ??

check this website. As far as I know, BG doesn't sell to the public only to dealers and garages. Some dealerships and garages will sell the product to the public.
I have heard great things about the Redline fluids too.

As someone else said I swear by the STP complete. Noticed big difference in idle quality and smootheness used in an older vehicle. Probably not so noticable in newer vehicle that has only used premium gas.
I used to use fuel system cleanersin my old ride.....one problem I ran into was that these detergents clean gunk out of your gas tank and that caused my fuel filter to be clogged. I would suggest changing your fuel filter if your using alot of this stuff. Coincidently...your fuel filter may actually be the problem and not your engine buildups.
BG makes two [3] other products for extreme clean up that are really realy strong for use in a rail flush machine and another to fog the intake plenum, amd valves for tough cases.
On other extreme product is so noxious that it will almost sufficate everyone in the shop but it cleans things up like new. The other techs take an outside break when you reach in the locker for the extreme version.
After using any of these products [other than BG44k] you MUST change the oil after the mandantory 10 minutes of vigorous high rpm exercise.
BG Quick Clean for engines [HLA varnish remover] is so volatile cannot be shipped without a hazardous payment same with the others to varying degree.
Why they are delivered by company vans to dealers not shipped UPS etc. 23% of US still smokes while they work so they don't want any explosions by the layman.....the vapors are a significant hazard.......gloves are mandantory.
