Updated 2005 Intake Manifold Collector

I just came across this on everythingg35.com and it looks like this can be pre-ordered. Something like $207. It says this is the one on the 05 6MT (298 hp). So, would this addition inturn make the 03-04 models have the same numbers as the 05's? Also, is this just a simple spacer mod?
Sorry if this is a repost, I was just surprised to see it.
Thanks

I think I know what you are talking about. No it's not a spacer. What they are selling is the same thing that Performance Nissan sells. Basically it is the OEM lower plenum that comes from the 2005 350Z Track/35th Anniversary model or the 2005 6MT G35's. Bascically the ones with the 298 hp engines. And yes, the acutal plenum part is different than previous years and the current non 298 hp models. What the differences are is still unknown. Could these differences be a benefit to us non 298 hp engine guys? Perhaps. Here is a thread on MY350Z.com that talks about this subject.

The upper plenum is the same, but the lower plenum is different. So anything like spacers or cast plenums etc... is not the same thing as what the newer motor has. We have some on order to compare the differences to see how much different the two are.

This is not the only part that is different on the motors to make more power, THUS just putting this on will not yeild the extra HP some are looking for. The newer motors have variable timing, new pistons, rods, rod bolts, etc etc...
there are many reasons why the newer VQ motors make more power....

Well that's peak torque. Peak numbers don't mean that much compared to the entire curve.

I think the variable exhaust cam timing and the different cams are responsible for most of the marginal power increase in the topend ......and the decrease in low to midrange power. I doubt this intake manifold is going to gain much power, but we'll never know until someone tries it. Don't forget that these motors went from 287hp to 298hp. That's not a huge increase power. I think we all know that the 03/04 G35 coupe and 6 speed sedan were making very close to the 287hp the 350Z is making.

Jason@PerformanceNissan has posted his findings of the difference between the old and new lower plenums. Here's a pic.

Go to the my350z link posted above to find out more. You can definitely see the design change as the new lower plenum has more open area before the runners.

OK now were cookin'. This thing may not be worth a ton of ponies but i wonder about this combined with a crawford or a spacer. There are so many permuations of tests needed at this point to verify anything plenum that it may take 6 months to sort all this stuff out. Perhaps the original plenum setup with the new spacer would be the best config?

What are the reports on plenums and spacers going on 05's?

DaveB,
The cars went from 280HP to 298HP...as far as I recall while I was 'researching' before purchasing the 03-04 5AT and 6MT both were rated at 280HP....
