Will an 08 G35 6MT Engine fit into 08 G35XS?
Are you talking sedan or coupe, they are two totally different vehicles for 2008. The sedan stayed as the G35 equipped with the VQ35HR while the coupe became the G37 equipped with the VQ37VHR.
Check the engine bay tag, if it's the same engine it will work.

Ohh yeah sorry, forgot what this thread was about and thought you were wanting to swap the tranny. Just double check to make sure they're both HR motors and it's a 100% swap, they are the same except you will need a 5AT pilot bushing for your crankshaft behind the flex plate, the 6MT uses a different one.
So keep your existing flex plate, throw away the 6MT flywheel, buy a new pilot bushing for an automatic, pull out the 6MT pilot bushing, and put in the new 5AT one and you're good to go.

You will have to swap the oil pan / lower aluminum pan / girdle to keep the AWD. Also the stuff cleric said above.
Pilot bushings are like $5, just get a new one. I would inspect the motor mounts while it's out, pull the plugs and squirt a little WD40 to lube the top of the piston if it's sat for a long time. Pull the fuel pump relay and give the engine a nice long crank before you actually start it up, about 6-7 full seconds to get oil pumping through everything again. Start with fresh oil and do another oil change in 100 miles if this engine has sat for a while or if you don't know how long it sat for, don't freak out if the oil looks wierd and possibly has milky streaks in it. It's pretty amazing how much condensation can get into an engine that's sat for a year. Just take it easy on the donor motor until after it's "break in" oil change.

hi, first time posting. im in a similar situation and i was wondering if i could get some insight/clarification.
i have a g35xs sedan with AT5.
so another VQ35HR (manual or automatic) should bolt up directly to my automatic tranny correct? given i switch out the flywheel for the flexplate, switch the oil pan and pilot bushing (if the engine came from a manual).
is this the same for swapping VQ35HR from a 350z into my 2008 g35xs sedan AT5 as well? are
all VQ35HRs the same?

Yes, you can use the HR from a 350Z or any other RWD/AWD longitudinally mounted car. I don't know if the HR ever came in a transverse mounted car like the Altima/Maxima but if so those would likely not work due to the placement of the motor mount castings.
I don't THINK it ever came transversely mounted though, I think it only came in the G35, 350Z, M35, FX35, EX35. Any of those would be a suitable donor.
You're correct about the components that would need to swap, keep your AWD upper oil pan, flexplate, and pilot bushing. You can reuse your existing pilot bushing if the donor was a 6MT. The 5AT pilot bushing is basically just a plug for the end of the hole, it doesn't actually have any wear like the 6MT one does.
Pay close attention to the orientation of the flex plate, there is an alignment dowel hole one the flex plate and the crankshaft and they MUST LINE UP or the crank position sensor will be reading the pickup wrong on the flexplate.
