Mobil1 extended performance 15,000 miles
Mobil1 extended performance 15,000 miles
Just got an oil change and put this new oil in. Its guaranteed for 15,000 miles but I am not about to test it for that long
It cost me $5.99/qt retail for the Mobil1 Extended Performance 5w30 full synthetic, compared to $5.19/qt retail for standard Mobil1 5w30 full synthetic.
I normally go 5,000 miles between oil changes, the oil comes out slightly dark though.
I will change my oil at 5,000 again and will note the difference in the oil's color.
I am hoping the new oil will show less wear after 5,000 miles.
If anybody has tried or is trying this oil and have any input, please feel free to do so.

Sounds good bro. I wouldn't go the 15k but that's me. BTW the colour will still be dark and discoloured at 5k when you change, so I doubt you'll see any difference there, but Mobil maintains it keeps its lubricating qualities longer.
You could prolly go 10k tho.
And yes I agree that the filter should be best quality to ensure good filtration.

When discussion longer periods between oil changes in the G35 I am not concerned with the oil itself. The oil filter on the VQ is ridiculously small, my son's 1997 2.0L DSM Eclipse has an oil filter that is 4 times bigger than my G35's.
I am changing at 4000 miles regardless of the oil I am using, my concern is not the oil but the motorcycle sized oil filter.

You should send an oil sample off to Blackstone labs at 5k, and see what the lab results show. You could probably run that oil and be fine until 12k miles, at that point, your filter will be the thing failing, not the oil. Amsoil and Mobil 1 are very good oils, and you should enjoy the extended intervals they offer. I read that the latest M3 has an indicator to indicate when the oil needs to be changed. From what I read on an owners site, this indicator is coming on at 12k miles or thereabouts, and they come with Mobil 1 from the factory if I remember right.

I was told by a local performance shop that the new Mobil 1 15K is the same basic mixture as the original Mobil 1. The current badged Mobil 1 is of lesser quality than it was a few years ago... no proof, but interesting none the less and would love to see a molecular test...
A lot of ppl have been talking the MOBIL 1 EP and here is the link that may be useful

I posted about my oil analysis here https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sedan-v35-2003-06/48874-m1-ok.html
Blackstone is saying that my use of standard M1 5W/30 is working well and I could probably go 9000 miles per service. Got the EP in there now and will see how it does next analysis to see if its worth the extra $0.75/qt.

You guys might ask or search for post from PalmerWMD on NICO (http://www.nicoclub.com/). He's a wealth of knowledge when it comes to oils. He'll probably tell you a whole lot more than you will ever want or care to know.
