In-Cabin Microfilter - Charcoal

I noticed that everything G35 has the Charcoal In-Cabin Microfilter available. Go here: http://infinitipa.zoovy.com/product/27277-CL025.

There was a TSB for this. Go to this thread for more info: https://g35driver.com/forums/tsb-technical-bulletins/57097-tsb-05024-charcoal-filter.html

If those filters are anything like the OEM filters, you're much further ahead trying gordgee's GroundingGear Carbon HEPA Filters. They're less expensive, built better, and filter better than the OEM ones. I couldn't believe how flimsy the OEM ones were compared to the GG ones.

I bought one back when I got his GroundingGear wires (big difference over my Sun Auto and Stillen wires). Then I re-ordered another filter (which I'm about to change to this year), and at the same time got one for my buddy with a FX. Even my wife seems to think that her allergies act up less when the pollen count is up.

I only wish Gord would expand into other products!

Please post picks of GG Carbon HEPA Filter. Gordgee, If you read this post, please start a thread about your hepa filter so that others may know about their choices for the in-cabin air filter.

Actually, I did a thread about this waaaay back.

I initially made the first filter for my daughter as she suffers from some allergies. I was really disappointed with the fit and construction of the OEM filters as well as lack of information re filtration efficiency.

I thought I'd add in a Activated Carbon Layer while I was at it. Most of the A-C filters out there sprinkle Carbon through the weave of the fabric to decrease costs, but of course this limits the amount of Activated Carbon you can utilize. I therefore added it as a separate layer. Some improvement has been made to the initial batch of filters, and based on the filthy thing I just changed out this W/E, I'm glad my HEPA filter's in there! For what-ever reason, the HEPA filter is grossly filthier than the OEM filter after significanty less time, so either it filters better, is sealed better (or both), or I drove through much worse air conditions!

Here are a couple of pics of the GroundingGear™ Activated Carbon HEPA Filter.

Gordgee, I remember you offered a filter when I purchased your ground wire kit last year. At the time, I had no idea it was anything “special”. How much are they shipped to Southern California?

By adding another layer for Charcoal filtration, does this decrease the power
of the actual air that gets through? I.e., will I have to turn up the fan an
additional level in order to feel the same blast of air as stock?

I had some flow testing done back when I first designed the filters. Because of the extra surface area, even though the HEPA filters finer particles than the OEM, it had a better flow rate than stock. Adding the Activated Carbon layer did little, if anything to the flow rate since it, by the nature of the activated carbon, is much coarser and allows quite a lot of air to flow through. I initially designed the A-C layer as a pre-filter, which trapped the larger dust particles first, but over time, because it's a thinner layer, I believed that it might decrease the air flow more significantly than just using the HEPA, with its greater surface area first, and the A-C as a post-layer. Besides, I think the A-C would last longer that way, without its surfaces getting clogged with more grunge than necessary.

As an experiment, the filter that I recently installed in my car has a double layer of the Activated Carbon. I was worried that the extra thick layer might affect air-flow, but since my controls are at 'Auto' anyway, I haven't really noticed. The double layer hasn't seemed to make much, if any, difference in taking out certain odours that got through before. I'm told that even the really well designed (and expensive) Carbon filters for Mercedes Benz, etc., don't filter out all odours either, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. It was worth a shot though.

I like to think that all the GroundingGear™ products are 'special'!

Since I'm going on vacation for a couple of weeks after July 16th W/E, I'm not going to be able to fill any orders until probably the second week of August, but I'll PM you the information when I get the chance later this week.

Well now I know.

I'll look forward to the information. I am not in a hurry, so August is fine. Thanks.
