Thumbs up TSB 05024 Charcoal filter

For those who did not get this information yet, there is a technical service bulletin #05024 reffering to the availability of a charcoal in cabin air filter. If this is old info please disregard.

So we can take it in and ask for a new filter or does something have to be wrong with it in the first place?

I bought the charcoal one online. Cant say I have noticed any difference. If something smells outside, this filter will not keep it out. The design of the filter and housing is a joke. No way it will seal properly anyway. It will keep out rocks, bugs, and small children, but thats about it.

Considering the TSB is from May 2005, I would say this is not "new"... however - I asked to have mine replaced at last PM schedule and was told it isn't needed (not worth the $$)... I had a musky smell with fan only (no AC) and wanted it replaced but they only had the HEPA filter without carbon/charcoal (whatever)... so I purchased from Gord (see thread in reviews). I don't know why my dealer would tell me there is no charcoal filter when the TSB says there is... I think they were trying to save me money, but it DID need replacing.

I just removed the old filter (12k miles), ran lysol through the system and used a Puralator basic filter ($12.88). This helped tremendously but there is still a hint of musk left over. Does anyone with the charcoal filter notice marked improvement?

I did/do... however it could just be the fact that the filter is new in general. I use the same type of filter in air purifiers at home and they make a difference... If you put a new filter in and still smells a little musky I would suggest the active carbon (charcoal, whatever you want to call it) - I have been satisfied.
