i got an issue with my car dealer "Crest Infiniti" in Plano(Dallas) Texas. Here's the issue at hand. i have aftermarket speakers, subs, and amps, kept the Bose HU. been playing loud and clear for over a year already... all of a sudden when playing ONLY cd's the left channel does not work, sounds distorted like the speakers are blown.. the dealer ordered the radio and i have the car there today(7-7-05), their telling me that my warranty is void for any audio because of the aftermarket equipment. any suggestions would be great!!!

Those audio signals are a one way street. That is like saying the warranty on your ho****er tank is void due to the type of spray nozzle on your garden hose. The fact that is just on the CD suggest that your connections are fine, that the amplifier section of the HU is fine, but there is some issue with the CD portion of the HU or the switching. These items will not be affected by where that signal is going downstream. Take it to a different dealer.

I would take the amps out, remove after market speakers and re-install stock speakers... then take to (different) dealer. I keep all my stock parts in fear that something like this might happen. If I ever have a warranty issue, I plan to put stock parts back on before going to dealer.

If you didn’t keep stock setup I guess you’ll just have to try another dealer as previously suggested and hope for the best.

Good luck.

its a known issue and should be replaced under warranty. ive had mine replaced once and others have had their HU's replaced multiple times. take it to a different dealer before spending money / time removing the aftermarket parts.

Isn't it possible to determine that the HU is the cause of the problem? I would ask your dealer how they concluded that the aftermarket additions have caused the left channel drop out on CD play only. You've tweaked a major system in the car. Doing this has openned a window for the dealer to claim that your modifications caused the problems. But, this might just be a bluff on their part, press them to prove that your mods were responsible, they might just back off and honor the warranty.

Do you know enough about car audio to know that there's no way your subs/speakers/amps could have made the CD player or Bose HU to malfunction? Or are you just hoping that this isn't the case? If I were going after a warranty claim in your situation, I'd want to be armed with the best possible information to justify my position. Good luck.

I have a good basic "know how" but if you have other suggsestion please inform. the way i see it, if the aftermarket had caused any damage it would have blown the entire output (left or right or maybe even both!) not just the cd, like in my case.. the swithching from cd:am/fm:tape is done enternally in the HU. it appears to me that the issue is a left channel optical pick up problem. just my speculation. i would like for someone in this forum to point me to the clause that states voided warranty due to a modification installed aftermarket. thanks to all that replied thus far and those that will continue to offer there input!!

I'm on head unit #2 and there is a TSB stating that this is a known problem. The fix is to replace the head unit.

BTW, there has been a newly released head unit in the last month or so. It sucks JUST AS BAD (if not worse) than my previous unit. I've gone from having only the left speakers cutting out to having either the left, the right or all of the speakers cut out.

I'm now looking into aftermarket, but not before I make Infiniti give me another free head unit.

Hey man, screw Crest...they are losers....go to Sewell and talk to Mario Cantu..he's always taken care of any issues that I've had with my car. Although it might be further, you can also go to Grubbs since they are MOD friendly and support our DFW G35 Club.

Left speaker/CD player issue

Hey Neffster, I don't recall seeing any TSB'S on this issue. I have had mine replaced about a month ago for the same left speaker/CD issue and it's on the blink again. Called dealer and they wanted to give me a runaround so I called Infiniti Customer Service and they told me to just bring it in to dealer as scheduled and they will replace it again if necessary. The customer service rep. said she had no knowledge of this issue with the head unit. The way she sounded, it's as if there aren't many complaints. If you have the TSB info, please share. Thanks.

I went to the site where they publish the TSB's and didn't see it myself either. My dealership said it was a known problem and that they would fix it under warranty. I guess I assumed it was a TSB, either that or I was told it was one and took that as fact instead of researching it myself.

Either way, it's a known defect and I'll be getting my 3rd head unit installed relatively soon.
