Just got off the phone with a parts rep w/ Infiniti at lunch and he said the 330 is only off the Sedan..

260 + 70 = 330

If it was for the coupe we'd have about 20 more ponies...

Thus making it at 350 of course...

EDDIE, Did you see my post above? What dealer are you calling? I want more details. None of the So. Cal. dealers I have called so far know anything about a chip upgrade. Thanks man.

Grrr... can't stand all the misinformation... just called another dealer and they told me that nothing from infiniti or nissan in the works, but that given maybe a year most likely there will be aftermarket chips that will add an extra 40-50 HP... that means absolutely nothing to me... i want original nissan stuff and a warranty... I'll keep picking around for more information.

 

I don't care if it's aftermarket or not......if it delivers even 30hp from just programming I'd buy it, BUT, I highly doubt that you could get more than 15hp at best from just reprogramming. My '96 Z28 with exhaust and CAI gained 9rwhp from custom tuning (not a generic HyperTech, SuperChip, etc.) and that engine was not nearly as tweeked from the factory as the VQ35. 40-50hp from programming only with no other power adder -- BS!

 

I called Team Infiniti, the salesmen have no clue what I was talking about until I asked to be transfered to parts. Asked some other guy and he's like oh yea I bet but it'll probably go for 800 to 900 bucks. I called him again for the THIRD time to see if I can preorder now and his @$$ said "oh through us? I'm not sure if we're gonna get those in. I thought you were talking about other chips used in the car that we might service" and just rambled on and on about how they might never carry it... oh god after that the phone call got very quiet and I said "sigh ok well thanks for clearing that up with me" *click* hung up on the guy... The guy was a mexican dude who could barely speak english and man I feel like complaining now for this missleading info he gave me.

I rarely place my faith in salesmen, but like I said earlier, my salesman called me AFTER I bought the car! That leads me to believe he's not trying to make a sale, but is trying to help a customer out. He only has something to lose by lying to me at this point!

And as far as the actual HP goes, I was told 40hp for a total of 320, which for a *** car, does NOT seem like it is improbable. Especially for an engine as large as ours.

I really believe this is true based on GK's TT setup on a stock engine. If our engine were truly hopped up really high, his engine would have exploded by now. I think there's a lot of improvement to be made on our engines, but that the stock engine management takes into effect things like idiots putting regular gas in the car and other engine unfriendly things that idiots do!

anything is possible guys, moving the rev limiter could yield more HP, people say these engines are bulletproof

NO WAY IN HELL will you get that much hp out of this or any NA car with just a chip even with a turbo car 50hp is pushing it
youd get about 35-40 usually.
i cant belive you people believe this.
im sure some of the dealerships with intelligent employees chuckle when you call and say 70 hp chip.
theres already several chips out, and you can go to chestons posts to see what hes discovered in hacking the ECU.

and whats this *** car bull, cause a cars japanease it responds really well to an ecu upgrade? yeah that makes sense.

My dealer, Nationwide in MD, is clueless about the chip and SAT wiring for pre-FEB coupes. Lets get to the bottom of this. Douche, total DOUCHE!

I do remember my friend had the 99 Audi A4 1.7 or 1.8 (not sure) and they had chips for that car that got an extra 40 HP from just a chip. So 40 HP seems reasonable to me...

The A4 is a turbo engine and that makes a big differance. Often when a turbo engine is chipped all this does is remap the boost ratio so more boost is pushed through the turbo. This will often produce an extra 35-45HP. My friend has the exact car that you speak of and he got 45HP from replacing the chip. Also engines that have turbos are more often than not "built" with a little more heavy duty parts as turbos produce more heat and require more oil cooling etc. This also means that they often are underrated by the MFR and can be pushed harder. I think the Audi's and Supra TT are good examples. NA engines whether from japan or not usually are pushed and built right to the limits they are capable of, BMW engines like the 3 series straight six are a good example of this. This is also why ECU changes more often than not on NA engines will do little or nothing UNLESS accompanied by several other upgrades such as exhaust, intake, fuel rail, timing and ignition and so on. This is just my understanding of the situation and the reason why most people are doubtful of even a small HP gain from an ECU change. Just my thoughts and info. Ok, some 3 series have been known to get 49 hp extra.
Apply that philosophy along with perhaps, our engines were restricted a bit and the chip unleashes all the secluded power, and we might have a 70 hp increase.

And if its true, imagine how many people will buy this upgrade.

Afterall that's one of the aims of R Spec is to get 50 percent of owners to buy atleast one upgrade =O.

 

Hey Eddie, Growler Here. Who is your dealer...mine was McPherson in Tustin. All this chip stuff sounds good, but I'm waiting till NISMO comes out with something we can trust. Hey, our coupes are like rockets now....I'm finally nailing it good and sometimes the acceleration on those 5K upshifts scares the sh*& out of me.
