Your take on an Intake...

I am planning on installing an intake into my 2005 G35 Coupe and have cut my choices down to either an Injen Cold Air Intake or a JWT Pop Charger w/Z-tube. I keep hearing different ideas on both and can't decide. I heard the Injen has a really killer noise but lacks protection from water should there be scenario like that. I also heard the JWT Pop Charger has a killer noise as well, has a protected filter from water but is a waste of $$. I would appreciate any opinions or ideas on which intake I should choose...thanks

Have you considered the Nismo? I hear the nismo is pretty decent with bypass valve. The stillen is probably easier to maintain since its more of a short ram intake.

Hi,
Our stock intakes are designed pretty dam well; personally I'd just go Z-tube K&N drop in. If your going to go cone filter, I'd choose the one w/ the best insulating barrier from engine heat, the $tillen looks good. Good luck and happy modding

just before i went for the injen cold air, i made a call to injen to confirm the spec for 05 6mt coupe. The reply from injen is that their current model works great with 03-04 model, it will fit 05 also, but the performance will not match the result on 03-04. The JWT/z-tube is probably the best choice now, until injen or someone else developed something new to fit with 05 model.

You want an honest opinion? Intake and Exhaust are a waste of money on your G. You will see little gains at best. People are spending a grand on exhaust for what 4hp? Sounds like a waste to me. Get a plenum, go FI, something. The money you spend on breather add ons is generally a waste though. My $0.02. I've done it on enough cars to be over it. LOL!

K&N Filter is best option, and if you want the growl get a used Z-tube from the 350 forums. you will see better gains than any intake or w/e unless you get the stillen high flow airbox which ive heard is good. dont waste 200 on an intake

My take on an intake

While there are several good aftermarket intakes available I went with the Z air duct and Stillen CAI because:

1 - This is a reasonably "stealthy" system.
2 - Stillen's heat enclosure works better than many others.*
3 - The Z air duct and Stillen filter enclosure (heat shield) are "plastic" and therefore don't absorb (transfer) heat like bare metal components.*
4 - The air inlet remains above the grill. (Lower air temperatures at hood level than at road level and minimum chance of engine hydro-lock.)
5 - Added power with no loss of low end. (Based on dyno-butt, G-Tech and dyno results.)

Ditto. The Stillen HiFlow AirBox coupled with the 350Z intake tube can't be beat. I was at the Nissan dealership the other day and I was talking with my service advisor about the Maxima stock intake. I sugggested I might upgrade to an Injun, He said NO NO NO... He had 3 350Z's come in hydrolocked within the last week, all with Injen intakes.

Yep. The stock box w/K&N, or the Stillen, and the Z-Tube is the best bet. No chance of water issues, retains the low-end, good sound, and for under $150 if you use the stock box.
